Well the (harldy controversial) point is that he hasn't translated his Man utd form into performances for England - other than the Euros in 2004. At the two subsequent world cups he was wound up and frustrated and - to be frank - acted like a cunt.

Simarlaly, Cantona never really did it for France either. Maybe its a Man United thing?

With his goal against Ukraine Rooney has already equalled Lineker's (just one shy of Bobby Charlton record of 49 incidentally) total of 22 in competitive games.

So? He was still shite in the last two tournaments he played in.

Does that include school boy goals though cos that was the only time shrek has shined for England ;)

Aye Rooneys shite, nothing to do with england being fucking shite. look at Rooney for united were hes got teammates who cab pass a ball and not just thump hopeful balls forward.

A strong contender for Englands worst player - and most unpleasent personality (in the face of stiff competition) at the last world cup - I cant believe anyone's defending his England tournament record post 2004.

Be great to see him produce his club form at international level - but if he flunks this one ....

I've forgiven him for the last world cup. He got defensive after performing badly, that's all. He cares, and that counts a lot for me.

Your obviously struggling to come to terms with the concept of 'competitive' goals. Arguably was it not for Rooney's contribution there would in all likelehood be 'no tournament record post 2004' in need of defending.

He scored 0 goals leading up to the 2006 World Cup qualification. And if you discounted all his goals from the 2010 qualification, and from the 2012 qualification, every single result would have been the same. So, arguably, his goalscoring contribution to England has been nil

Thats why I was talking about his record in actual tournaments - as opposed to qualifiing.

Are you really saying his performances at the last two world cups have been anything other than a huge dissappointment?

Are you his mum or something?

"Well the (harldy controversial) point is that he hasn't translated his Man utd form into performances for England" was the original statement by you I was taking issue with. I would suggest that 29 goals and 13 assists in 75 caps sort of says otherwise. And again in the 8 years since 2004, in terms of England Player of the Year he is placed 1st or 2nd, fifty per cent of the time.

there are seven years since 2004, and he was first twice and second never.

Like most of the England team (Ashley fucking Cole is probably the main exception, annoyingly) it's a no-brainer really to say he hasn't matched his Man United form for England since then. Not one goal that actually mattered.

I don't actually think Rooney has really turned into the wonder-boy Manure thought they'd bought from the bitters. I watched him as a young lad and he was phenomenal then but as he's got older I think he's tightened up, piled on the pounds, often looks short of pace and nothing like he would have been if Moyes had of kept him on the straight and narrow.
He looks like a half decent sunday league player these days but that's it;)
