Israeli forces storm Gaza aid ship, and beat people on board. Fatalities reported.

Oh gosh, how many domestic kitchens have knives in them and domestic toolboxes have screwdrivers?

Shame they couldn't find the odd AK47 or stun grenades amongst that lot.

Sorry but I just don't believe that. I have been reading the English language Israeli press all day and I see nothing but frothing mouthed jingoistic hysteria.

How about Israels own Member Of Parliament who was on the attacked ship , Im sure she is not the only one on the parliament who disagrees with current plan , if she is she is a very brave woman.

People from 32 countries , politicians , reporters , humanitarian war crime lawyers etc etc were to traveling with the flotilla , I really cannot believe that if she was alone in the Israeli parliament in thinking the way she does that she would have took the risk to join never mind speaking out like that.

The bolded words are an important part of this discussion with respect not only to what the commander thought or ordered, but also wrt what transpired in the heads of those who picked up axe handles and hammers.

We can, however, make what are known as "educated guesses" based on things such as past form and basic human psychology.

If it kills your kid or your grandmother, you probably wouldn't be all that bothered with nomenclature.

Probably not, but I wouldn't trust those things to accurately hit anything. I'm sure they have done damage but calling them rockets is like calling me a genius. Totally inaccurate. I'm a scatterbrain geek who occasionally hits on a relevant point just by sheer rate of makeshift thought.

Of course it is easier for the r/w sorts to call them rockets like they are proper ex-soviet, chinese or american gear. That makes it sound like they are proper opponents. The truth of some overgrown firework shot from a pair of rails doesn't fit the narrative so well. I mean, really. I'd be ashamed to be seen firing one of those. They are proper 'my first offensive sort-of-mortar' stuff.

Rockets my arse. Long rang molotovs more like.

Who cares? They are self propelled devices with some sort of explosive attached, designed to kill people, and they do.

What are you getting at?

More from her here

“Israel had days to plan this military operation,” she told a press conference in Nazareth. “They wanted many deaths to terrorise us and to send a message that no future aid convoys should try to break the siege of Gaza.”

And, of course, a bullet in the head is a bullet in the head for the families of those shot. 'oh it is a Galil, not an AK-47' isn't going to be much comfort either, eh?:)

the over-egging of capabilities is comedic when you look at it. 'oh rocket attacks, daily'

But when we look at that claim it is home made shit non guided sort-of-mortars. Break out the emotive rocket label though cos it makes the palestinians sound tooled up eh?

That's the point. If you're killed by a projectile coming out of a gun, it makes no mind to the dead person if it's a hollow-point, or a musket ball fired from a blunderbuss.

They might have more luck if they weren't firing from a pair of rails. That imparts all the stability of me at 3 am on a friday night.

I was under the impression the arab nations were slyly shotting the palestinians some decent gear to fight back with but that shit is pathetic. Still, I suppose you can only do the best with what limited shite you have.

Trying to cast the launching of the projectiles as some sort of comedy routine acts to trivialize the threat of death that they represent.

The mortars don't count as decent?

Given the success rate posted above? No. They are a like a drunk man throwing feeble punches. Compared to US supplied real missiles that can put a missile into a moving car from half a mile away it is the most rubbish of weaponry

Perhaps, though given what the IDF usually does to the launching crews / people nearby it would almost certainly be correct to state that launching a rocket is far more likely to result in Palestinian deaths than Israeli ones.

28 deaths as a result since 2001.

I assume the death toll is at least partly for the reason DC has given: crap equipment. The number of projectiles fired into Israel is much higher.

What would you do if your neighbors took a shot at your house every week with an old flintlock that didn't have a lot of chance of hitting anyone?

I'd enlist the help of Uncle Sam from the other neighborhood. Then I'd bulldoze thier house, shoot their kids and drive them from the land their fathers held.
