Israeli forces storm Gaza aid ship, and beat people on board. Fatalities reported.

I'm just prepared to consider the possibility that there were elements on the ship who, under the guise of "Aid Workers", were simply trouble makers who were more than happy to attack Israeli's (maybe only there to do so), relished the opportunity when they saw the troops swinging down the ropes, and set about them with iron bars, knives and chairs thus eliciting a lethal response.

You're either having a bubble or you're pissed a bit early in the day.
Do you really think that a flotilla that knew that the people on the ships would be subjected to intense scrutiny would risk having ringers along just in case there was an opportunity to make trouble?

You're cracked.

I think behind the scenes there are probably some harsher exchanges going on than we know about.

Obama. "Netanyahuh you are a fucking vile disgusting war mongering cunt. Pack it in now. Stop all settlements. Every single one. End the blockade of Gaza. Now.Here is a phone. Make the call.
Enter into peace negotiations in good faith. Do it. Do it now. I will give you a week. OR i AM CUTTING OFF ALL THE MONEY. Now get out of my office"

Netanyahuh. "Ok "

Easy

Indeed. Or to open a big kitchen (one required for, say, a boat carrying 500+ passengers)!

ps: I also like the spanners and wrench which have been added to the pile on the right. A wrench! On a boat! Terrorist scum etc.

And don't forget the lethal angle grinder discs, that can be wielded by murderous aid-working ninjas.

So do you equally think they were stupid and to blame for their injuries for doing so?

Here we go again.....

If a thief sticks a gun in your ribs and asks for your money, you have two choices.

If you don't give up the money and he shoots you, it's arguable that that could have been avoided, had you done as asked. So in a limited sense, your choice played a role in the consequence of the trigger being pulled.

But the overriding situation was, is, and remains illegal. The thief has no color of right allowing him to do what he is doing, and your resistance to his act may have led to your death, but your resistance does not somehow convert his shooting you into a legal or justified act.

This applies in so many areas. If you leave your car unlocked with a laptop sitting on the seat, you are a damn fool, and no one will be very surprised when it is stolen. But your leaving the door unlocked does not change the essential nature of what the thief does, which is to commit the crime of theft.

Maybe not that harsh.

That once you've got armed commandos aboard and you're unarmed, the best form of defence is surrender.

You can hear on the boat, the white flag raised, the announcement that the Israelis are on board and using weapons, and you can hear their gunfire. People are told if they resist, they will be shot.

Describing what will happen doesn't mean supporting what will happen or what did happen. JC3 is well over the line. He supports what happened.

Prime Minister David Cameron described the attack, overnight on Saturday, as “unacceptable”. In a phone call to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu last night, Mr Cameron insisted Britain remained committed to Israel's security, but called for a “constructive” response to “legitimate criticism” of its actions.

Has anyone ever heard our politicians say they are committed to Palestinian security? Me neither.

Different story here, with links to IDF videos

David Cameron said:
I am proud not just to be a Conservative, but a Conservative Friend of Israel; and I am proud of the key role CFI plays within our Party

Strange that the Israelis are so keen to stop anyone from speaking and confiscating cameras etc. If their brave commando's were really under vicious attack by Al Qaeda poets and artists I would have thought they would be eager to show us the evidence

The attempts at post-situational information management by Israel makes me more than ever convinced that the IDF deployed onto the ships partly as a publicity stunt, and that if it hadn't been resisted so fiercely by the aid workers, weapons and other ordnance might just have turned up "concealed" in with the medicines and other essential supplies.

this thread has been educational for me. and now it has collapsed. stop the crap about the civil rights movement!

it's clear that jc3 wanted the ships to surrender and do nothing. he has said that the passengers and aid workers made a choice to resist. that's his view and he entitled to it.

we've established (thanks to agricola and open sauce) that the attack was illegal.

can someone comment if the peace keeping contingent is a viable option for gaza? is it possible for the un security council to pass a resolution on the peace keeping forces to be employed, because israel is clearly unable to manage aid deliveries to gaza.
