There's cash to be made from Sinnfeinezuela seminars. Jim O'Callaghan (FF - Dublin Bay South) is the brother of RTE fixture Miriam O'Callaghan.

That is sooo funny

BURYING her head in her hands, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald can’t believe Waterford TD David Cullinane was shouting ‘Up The Ra’ 0.02 seconds after being elected and has asked all TDs to refrain from such things for at the very least, a full week.

“We can ‘Up the RA’ in private all we like. You know that, I know that, but Georgina O’Double Barrel Surname from D4-land thinks we’re going to sort out her high rent and that’s it. Jesus, she probably thinks a Republican is a Trump supporter so fucking cut it out,” an irate McDonald said, keen not to go full 24/7 United Ireland no matter the cost.

Some new Sinn Féin voters who had responded positively to the party’s campaign promises on non-Up the RA issues spent much of the last week in passionate debate with friends, family and coworkers, articulately explaining how bringing up Sinn Féin’s IRA past was ridiculous pearl clutching only for a number of newly elected TDs to openly celebrate it.

“And Dessie, cut out singing Come Out Ye Black and Tans, would ya? Some people are only one Google of you away from discovering you were arrested for making bombs,” McDonald added, now chiding TD Dessie Ellis.

“What was the one thing I said to you lot,” McDonald asked her TDs, who responded sheepishly in unison with “absolutely no RA-ing for at least a week”.

“Exactly. Wait until we form a government and everyone’s attention span expires. I hope you’re proud of yourselves now, there’s some lovely middle class people who voted for us and now they’re shitting themselves,” added McDonald.

However, McDonald’s ire seems misplaced as one Sinn Féin supporter pointed out that “the people of this country elected Sinn Féin exactly so its TDs would openly shout ‘Up the Ra’, and anyone who’s not on board with that is a property fund owning Blueshirt who wants to marry the RIC”.

Latest is a mooted FF/FG/Green coalition. If they can make it work, it might actually last the distance. . . What kind of election result we'll see on the "Ireland Election 2024" thread will be a sight to behold, though.

Idris2002 was just going to post that ‘Super grand’ coalition of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, and Greens mooted to deny Sinn Féin power

I'd say the investors "threatening" to walk, was aimed at FFG Irish shares tumble on Sinn Féin surge I think it probably would last the distance (barring a corruption scandal, or some FFG opportunism) but for SF being the main opposition would only be a good thing. Lo and behold the central bank warns against spending as the economy is overheating...Buses.

eta haha fucking greens...they will split, McHugh should walk.

ML says her meeting with Ryan this morning went well:

Either the super grand coalition was a load of shite from the start, or the Greens are planning on extracting an exacting price from FF/FG. Probably the former.

SDs think a left government unlikely.

Was it ever likely, or even possible? Who would SF have to get into bed with to secure the seats needed for a majority? A FF/FG coalition seems much more likely. Two sides of the same coin, with the green idiots begrudgingly dragged in for a majority.

Anyone else hearing reports of life-long friendships being threatened with breakup over the result?

Nope, but it wouldn't surprise me. On a personal level, have had a few ding dongs with some mates & have had to put a few on "snooze" for a bit. One of them is having a bit of a time on social media and is posting every anti-SF thing she can.

Good to seeing Ireland moving left. SF Green coalition would be dope AF. The lovely lanes of Killeshandra will be the greenest they've ever been.

Does this make another GE more likely?

I'm starting to think so. I've not kept up the last couple of days, but SF left coalition is unlikely with Labour ruling it out. The FF'ers seem to be going out of the way to antagonise SF with Quinlivan of SF and O'Dea trading insults. However given that MLMcD has been warning of a 'Grand Coalition' between the FFG there might be behind the scenes feelers. I know Idris2002 counts it out, but given that a year ago no-one would have predicted that SF would win such a high vote, be one seat behind FF in the new Dail, anything could happen.

I would just like to comment that one of the main bollixs from my uni days lost his seat in Wexford after only winning it in November, Malcolm Byrne hahahaha...

Surely FG & FF will try their best to avoid another election, that would probably see SF standing more candidates & winning even more seats?

It's possible, but that comes at a risk. The grand coalition would be like the confidence and supply agreement that held FG in office with FF help for the last Dail. But the problem is that amongst voters confidence is in short supply for such a government. There are two added problems, even if the evil twins become one they still need the Greens to get to 80 seats. No doubt the Greens will happily join with some demands around the climate.

The second problem is greater, which will be a programme for government. There will have to be a change of priorities, they will have to spend on housing and health and the public sector will have to get a large pay rise. It's something they can accommodate but it's something that will rile investors. They cannot carry on like they have with pro market policies and spending cuts.. Failure to do something will destroy any chance they have in the next election. And with SF as the main opposition, SF will make bigger gains.

That programme for government would probably include a Carbon Tax, which they and the Greens want. There is no appetite in a country where so many houses in rural areas are heated by oil or coal for another tax. There is a real danger that a carbon tax becomes another water tax, and with that mass protests against it, causing cracks in the coalition.
