Glastonbury 2019

I didn’t venture very far this year because of heat/shifts/lack of sleep but still had a brilliant week.
I had such a fun team and really good shifts. I love working there and feel happy to be making a tiny contribution to a festival that’s given me so many beautiful times over 20 years.

I accidentally saw Liam Gallagher, it was alright.
The Killers show was fantastic. So much energy and top guest spots.

I hadn’t planned to see Kylie but I’m so glad I did, it was so much fun. It was the biggest daytime crowd I’ve ever seen, the field was packed and it was such a party atmosphere and Nick fucking Cave!! Gutted no Jason though. I don’t want to talk about Chris Martin.

Miley was ace afterwards and when Billy Ray came on the crowd went batshit.

The Cure were just wonderful. I don’t agree that the performance was flat but the crowd were. I think the issue is that lots of people there would have found some of it quite boring whereas fans clearly don’t. The last 40 minutes where they played the more ‘radio friendly’ stuff livened the crowd up but they were still quiet. Quite odd.

I’m burnt, exhausted and needing a bath.

I don't think it's that odd - they played a load of obscure album tracks most of the audience won't have known, so the momentum hadn't built by the time the bangers rolled in for the last 40 mins. Fair play, mind - I thought they were brilliant.

Just read the kid that got up to rap is just 15 & at his first Glastonbury. He totally rocked it.

Alex? He was great. In fact, Dave's whole set was.

Overall a good Glastonbury. Saw plenty of good acts, and a few excellent ones. No mud issues. My only gripe is that it was a bit too hot to enjoy it fully.

I had a blast and enjoyed the heat and sunshine.

Had to work 20 hours though including some anti social late night shifts and missed a fair few things I wanted to see (Four Tet, Stivs, Katch Pyro, Leftfield, Idris Elba, The Cure, Fatboy Slim  ). Then yknow the usual Glasto effect happened... lost people, bumped into people, sat about, got tired of traipsing about at points and trying to find people and just did whatever.

Musical highlights for me were:

High contrast on the BBC introducing stage
Snazzback on the Bandstand
Fatboy Eats Everything on Arcadia (cool show - only realised it was actually Fatboy Slim a bit into it!)
Ed Cox and E-coli smashing it at 5am on Truth stage
Watching a bit of Kylie in the sunshine (wasnt feeling the massive crowd but enjoyed and had food from a distance)
The Egg on the Glade stage. So good.
Cat Empire I could hear from the campsite and sang along although I wasnt actually there :D
Full afternoon evening working at Blues Gully with all the Colombian music on Friday was fucking awesome. Some incredible stuff!
Beans on Toast on Avalon was moving and awesome.
Casetteboy was pretty weird wacky and hilarious at the Glade
Caught the end of Chemical Brothers set for Block Rocking Beats.. booom!
Having a proper dance at the Bug stage to some cracking tunes
Fatoumata Diawara at West Holts was AMAZING and probs the highlight for me

I didnt really watch that many full sets or big names tbh... I was fucking knackered and on a bit of a comedown by Sunday night after work so I flaked rather than partying. Was quite gutted as I feel I missed out on the end of the festival, morning sunrise etc but my body and mind just ached. Did loads of walking and exploring and feel really lucky to have sorted a ticket so last minute. Hadnt been for years but it really was awesome, overall.

... so we've rewatched George Ezra after school today and we enjoyed it as much as we did when we were there .... Now I'm watching Kylie (which we heard from a shady spot but didn't see) - definitely by far the biggest crowd of the weekend even despite the heat .... But she's miming right  I got told Billie Eyelash did too, Live mic for talking but she's not singing.

It sounded to me like she was singing live on and off but over a backing track. Janet Jackson did the same apparently.

Kylie was singing some lines, but not all of them - mostly when she was performing some dance move or the other.

Yeah, I think it was the same for Janet Jackson - The voice is so lightweight it barely registers over the Karaoke backing track (and not too noticeable when she takes a breather - but you do see it)!

This was a bloody vintage year IMO. I came fully prepped, stayed out the sun when I should, and everything felt pretty so effortless.

Swarming crowds at the Pyramid for most acts was a real sight.

The plastic bottle ban was a huge achievement, and worked nigh on as good as they dreamed it could have. A little individual effort site-wide has had a huge impact.

Paper straws can still do one though. And I'm lolling in advance of the sight of the next wet one, when those that have only seen 2017 and 2019 get a rude awakening :D

Just watching The Streets. Started off a bit flat and just seems a bit off to me. Looks like the crowd were loving it though.

The crowd outside the tent could barely hear according to my friends. Stupid stage to put them on.

It was insanely busy. Lad central too. A few people -obviously left their group to get a drink and then came back to find 1000s more people had turned up and had no chance of finding them or making it through the really dense crowd.:D

We didn't last the whole thing as it was just a bit too quiet - he seemed pretty mashed, kept going on repeatedly pleading about having one memories or something :D

Walked out to the Woods to check that out, and the Bar tent was absolutely having ('aving) it to old trance/scouse house tracks (Better off Alone etc). Was a proper scene

wiskey I never listened to George Ezra before this weekend, I was very impressed.
He is the first act that werv (10) has liked, found out is playing Glastonbury and requested to go ... So we went, I only sort of knew who he was. We had an absolute blast, he was really enjoyable.

Not so impressed with the glitter canons at the end though
