Glastonbury 2009

Like a fucking ginger cat

Euuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, that's disgusting. :(

Sorry, Tom not Imelda. She looks much better.

I find him really creepy and imagine he's really lecherous. And he's too hairy, I don't like really hairy men. Also, he's trying too hard to be cool and young. And finally he sounds a bit like Heather from M People and I fucking hate her too.

I'm looking at return train tickets Paddington to Castle cary. For the return leg, what would be a good time to leave on Monday.

the bulk of the site leaves monday lunchtime and queues from from first light for the shuttle bus, perhaps leaving a bit later in the afternoon would be better. but if its raining that can be miserable, and you'd have to lump all your stuff with you all day.

there is a shuttle bus that runs to CC station throughout monday the last one is at 5pm

your other option is return to bristol temple meads which is out of the mayhem of castle cary:

"The Festival is also operating a coach shuttle service from Bristol Temple Meads railway station. It runs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 1000-1900 for £12 single and a return service on Sunday 12 noon to 2100 and Monday 0600 to 1900, again for £12 single."

i)Am i safe in assuming that i dont need to book the coach

not the shuttle busses or bus to bristol. Only the national express ones.

ii) how long does the que take to get on board

it can take an hour or so depending on when you arrive. the busses go when they are full.

iii) is there manic traffic to get out the site once on board

yes, the bus station is very busy with coaches and busses leaving as well as busses returning and then all the punters cars from the west car parks and the stage equipment leaving all through the same gate means that it gets very congested. but once off site the traffic management plan is normally good.

I am thinking of packing up the tent about 8ish and to get on the coach for 9.30am, to catch a train (to paddington) at about 11am. Does this sound feasable?

it might be. but I suspect thats what everyone else will be doing.

it also depends on the weather.

I'll be going to see him on my own then? :D

I'm tempted, he was number one the day I was born, n I'm a sucker for that kinda thing.

However, the Rockingbirds finish only just before he starts, there's Terry Reid on after them, not to mention the Yeah Yeah Yeah's.

And Imelda May looks suddenly enticing, for some reason.

Why is Tom Jones famous? He only had 3 good songs or something and he has a scary face like a cat. A ginger cat.

Have you seen him live?

no really, its mental!

I saw him at event I worked in london and he was the highlight of the day, the energy and confidence and VOICE.

And I never thought I'd say that :hmm:

But he's so hairy. All that hair on the big screen sprouting out of his clothes. It would be like watching Bigfoot and the Hendersons.

After years of extensive research, I now recommend no one makes plans for the Tuesday after Glastonbury...in case they're still on site trying to get off. See, over a week 200,000 people or so (including staff etc) go on site - there they all are, look, having a jolly good time...then they all try to leave, in one day, at about the same time. It's (nearly) always a nightmare. I'd book an open return.

My travel plans are becoming a little complicated. I was meeting my mate after his work team building day at Thorpe Park on Thursday evening and dumping my motor somewhere en route to jump his mum's more plain car.

Now his work thing is cancelled he'd like to go Thursday morning (and it appears this would get us a better camping spot) and has kindly offered to set up my tent, as I'd rather not lose a days money.

Questions:

1) If I drive down, how safe are the car parks to park a new-ish convertible soft top Audi? Are there a lot of car break-ins, or incidences of vandalism?

2) If I didn't drive and needed to get there from London on public transport on the Thursday night will it be a nightmare? Busy as hell? Or a positive definiton of camraderie with my fellow revellers?

If I remember rightly, the car crime figures were nearly zero last year. Obviously don't leave anything at all on display.

If you go from Paddington, and are visibly a festy goer, they will steer you on to a festival special if there's one running. You buy and ordinary ticket (about £55 off peak return), and then there's a pen for the train. They do that so they can count you all in, so everyone is guaranteed a seat.

Alternatively you might end up on a regular train. Not as much fun on board, but a little faster.

At CC it's luck. Bus might be ready to whip you over to the main gate straight away, or you may have to wait awhile. Sniffer dog team is there alot of the time, and they always get people.

Don't be tempted to walk. It's 8 miles and not safe due to lack of paths and lots of traffic.

On the bus, sit upstairs on the left hand side if you can. The first glimpse of the festival just before Pilton is jaw-dropping.

Enjoy :)

Started to look at what acts we are free to see outside our shifts and some of those choices are fantastic ....

Can't bloody wait, getting really excited, we leave for Glastonbury (town) on Saturday and will be on site from Monday :) :) :D

Got some bad news mate.

I've looked at our shifts and realised one of them clashes with East 17. I know it would be terrible to let the team down, but sometimes one has to make tough decisions. We'll get blacklisted, but hey...

...I mean, Stay Another Day? Releasing a Christmas single and deftly adding chime bells. It's artistic genius and sacrifices have to be made for that.

See you outside the Dance lounge on Thursday.

PS Can you please bring my old copies of Smash Hits. You've had them for ages. Thanks.

Anyone camped in Spring Ground?

its quite nice as most people who come in the gate walk straight past it because they want to be somewhere else (green fields), its on a hill but there's flat bits, its not a suburban wasteland like pennards as it has hedges and small fields.

could do worse.

one drawback depending on where you are is the farm road runs along it and that can be noisy as the milk tankers still come in each day.

Noisy? and the other areas were the 170 000 people are squeezed in aint, i wouldnt let the noise of a milk tanker put you off. probably be drowned out by other serious muppetry. ;)

Is it quite safe do you think? Compared to other areas.
