Glastonbury 2009

the main and second stages back onto each other with a shared backstage / production area. Getting round the crowds at either stage can take 40 bloody minutes or something, but this pass lets me cut through the production area and miss out the whole lot. a fucking godsend

Ah, I see. Is that to do with being a performer or being disabled? I don't think I applied for the viewing platforms and stuff because I didn't think I'd need it. Bloody wish I had now because I can't stand up or walk for long at all

I've always thought it was a bit short sighted of them to presume that nobody is going to bring glass and not put any bins for it. I can't remember which festival I was at last year but it also had a no glass rule but they'd put bins out and they were half full. People will bring glass, you might as well let them dispose of it.
Think Big Chill had glass recycling bins, even though glass was banned, think it's because so many people bring bottles of Champagne though!

I've stewarded at festivals and had punters bring glass to me that they found, they didn't know what to do with it, nor did I.

it comes with the disability facilities - i think i'd blagged one anway but it's nice to have it in the bag
I applied for the disabled campsite and stuff so maybe it automatically comes with that  It says on my letter to pick the wristbands and passs up from the arrivals tent if you've applied - I so hope I did *crosses fingers*

So as long as you get the bottles in the gate and dispose of the glass properly don't see it would be an issue

okay, i will tell her she should blatantly take her pretend beer and look after the bottles and take them home with her. man, sneaking lo- alcohol beer into glastonbury festival. how thirtysomething. how the mighty are fallen.

How about just not drink any wrongun beer at all?

There are plenty of non-alco drinks to be had that taste infinity X 1000 nicer.

well yes, I did glastonbury pregnant last year and I didn't have any fake beer. There's tonnes of fruit juices, smoothies, hot chocolates etc.

please be careful!!

(don't want you run over by the bbc!)

Thank you for this link, what a great webcam. Does it keep transmitting during the festival ? I can't find a link to it from the home page. I haven't been to Glastas since '95, having been to every festival since '82. I can't say I like all the changes but its interesting to see.
Someone who lives nearby takes panoramic shots, stitches them, these are the ones she's done so far.

They are really cool panaromas. If only the webcam took in that much detail! :)

I am half packed - now I am going to tweak my list :)eek:) to see what I have forgotten and what I may perhaps decide to leave.

Has anyone read that 'Be in the Place' book featured on the Wicked Faerie site?

My daughter just finished it - she said it was shite. :D

Ok folks, I had this very same scenario last year but missed my lift:

got a freebie, just need to meet someone who is working on site at one of the gates, and they will have a pass to let me in

Can I get there on the train/coach, and then walk to the gate he needs to meet me at? Or will I get chucked off for not having a ticket?

Glasto virgin I am, but not a fetival virgin

Ta

:)

Just sent daughter and her boyfriend off with some hippies in a van. Somehow they've managed a kushti blag stage building and decorating - 2 meals and £20 quid a day with the actual festival weekend off. It's her first Glastonbury and her first festival on her own

Excellent. :)

And good news about the pass, Geoff. I believe that I've already roundly abused you for being able to watch Neil Young from the platform but I may have to do so again before the festival itself.

one week today.... til im on site!

i am starting to get super excited! really looking foward to it this year... good vibrations and all that!

I'll spare you the detail (loads of links available if you look for them) but prospects remaining very good for next week.

OK just one link -- Met Office

UK Outlook for Sunday 21 Jun 2009 to Tuesday 30 Jun 2009:
The weather during Sunday and much of next week is expected to be dominated by high pressure. This will mean plenty of dry weather, particularly for central and southern areas with some good spells of sunshine. However, outbreaks of rain are possible at times for northern parts of Scotland, and some showery outbreaks of rain may extend a little further south across southern Scotland and Northern Ireland at times. Temperatures will be generally near normal at first, but becoming warm or very warm, especially for central and southern areas. Thereafter, generally little change. Plenty of dry, fine and warm weather is expected, though rain or showers in the north spreading further south into some central areas later, though dry and warm weather should last throughout the period across the south.

Your forecast can go down as well as up but all current stuff looking uncannily promising for now .....

:)

Started to look at what acts we are free to see outside our shifts and some of those choices are fantastic ....

Can't bloody wait, getting really excited, we leave for Glastonbury (town) on Saturday and will be on site from Monday :) :) :D

i probably won't watch him actually

i love Young, but he's been really off the boil of late. What band has he got?

anyone remind me of the deal re: barbecues? Totally verboten, or are some types ok and others not (like if they're on a stand or whatever)

doves or q tip is going to be a bit of a decison for me for headlners on the friday. Might dpend on how stoned i am(slightly stoned= tip, so stoned i can barely move = doves)

King blues or dizzie is a bit of a decison for the saturday although king blues are playing queens head as well, which might make he decison for me.

Think everything else is all gravy. Though might have to miss a bit of yeah yeah yeahs to catch madness.
