Glastonbury 2009

really? wouldn't that suffer on Glastonbury terrain? I can definitely get a power hookup

Have a look on www.thegorge.net (I think that's the address). In the Glastonbury bit there's a section on doing the festival if you're disabled... With come commentary on using chairs / scooters.

Sounds doable on the hard tracks, and I'd guess the railway track too.

we charge up wheelchairs at welfare, and you can probably leave it there for a while if you were up to having a bit of a wander (would be fairly handy for dicks too :D )

Is it wrong to feel so excited already? I think I’m becoming obsessed with the fact it’s Glasters next month and that in 6 weeks we’ll be there :)

I’m already on my 3rd version of my packing list! :D

No list but yesterday spent a silly amount of time putting my tent up (and posting about it) :D

you sound lovely :D:cool:

How times have changed – I never used to make packing lists as the only necessity was money and a large bag of drugs!

14 years later and I find myself compiling a list that includes firewood, pillows, clean cutlery and a fucking solar shower – having just read through my list I now feel so lame and old :(

Not lame at all but I agree about it making you feel old.

The first year I went I took 2 t-shirts, clean knickers and 1 spare pair of combats and my list is very different now. I was also 20, didn't mind sleeping on the floor and had clear skin that didn't need make-up. Now I have a blow up bed, pillows etc etc

After 2005 and 2007 I also appreciate the benefits of a good waterproof jacket and boots and plenty of trousers and socks because I was pretty ill prepared in 05. I didn't even have wellies and had never taken them before.

Ahhhh memories - I’ve just listened to a track I did with MC FlatPress (from Goldie Looking Chain) that’s about Glastonbury from 5 or so years ago. It’s a rough edit and the levels etc need some working on but it’s hilarious - as we shared such a fondness for the festival we had a fucking laugh making it.

I’ll find somewhere to host it (any recommendations?) and I’ll post the link – it will get you in the festival mood.

“Once we turned up in a four litre Jag,
when we got to the gate we did a wicked fucking blag,
we said we’re here to see Michal Eavis is why we’ve turned up,
to try and put his head back on the right way up.

I couldn’t believe it when they fucking bought it,
they sent us to the farm house and told us to sort it.
we had a bit of trouble removing his head,
so we shaved off his beard and stuck a wig on him instead.”

:D:cool:

Does anyone have experience of people bumming lifts on gaters and other site vehicles if you wave your crutches at them? the odd trip along the railway line would be a godsend,

Our (festie safety) rules are based on insurance and any passenger has to be a. coherent in a language we understand (!) and b. able to get in and out without assistance. Reckon you'll qualify on either/both?

The disabled minibus scurries about picking people up, more or less on demand but there's often delays.

gator drivers are all pirates (rules say no passengers :D) so take a parrot & eyepatch and you'll be fine, s'long as you can bribe them. Until they make you walk the plank.

bear in mind though that year on year the number of vehicle permits and movements is being steadily reduced and ever more restrictions introduced. In particular the interesting end of the railway line is no vehicles :(

I haven't got a packing list. I've got a full height cupboard into which everything I need gets artistically 'chucked'. It still hasn't got any clothes in it and it's quite full now. A cull is definitely going to be necessary - I can't take a whole cupboard full of 'stuff' with me! And I can't possibly need it all!

mines still up in the loft.... the glasto box is coming down next weekend to be filled with 'stuff':D Im only bringing half the number of kids this year too so wont need as much :)

IM starting to get excited now:)

I could've sworn I'd just clicked on the first bra thread and was really confused that you were bringing it to glasto :D

Cool!

I am too, but I've got Download 2 weeks beforehand again, so I've got a practice run - worked well last year but I do wish the 2 festivals were on consecutive weekends, that would mean 2 weeks away from work! :D

ETA - my ticket arrived during the week, too. Picked it up from the sorting office yesterday morning.

oooh maybe mines on its way then?:D would make a nice change from lasst year when it arrived 48 hrs before!!!

im defo getting propoer ponchos and a solar shower this year:)

LO - I seem to be acquiring new gear too - I seem to have lots of disposable ponchos and silver blankets! Still, I don't think it's possible to have too many of either of those items. Im going to keep a lookout for a good poncho though, the one I had last year was OK but it wasn't strong enough really, it got a bit broken on Thursday night...

the one I had last year came from an army surplus store, would be defo worth investing in because it withstood kids trampling on it, it being sat on etc as well as being completely weatherproof:)

Hurrah and Huzzah! :DAs posted on the tickets thread - I got one!!!!! Only been once before, in 2006, and it was brilliant, if a little muddy!

I'm a bit of cynic normally, but I'm properly excited!

I get to meet the mighty Yelkub :)

Unless he hides :(

Official written confirmation of our working status arrived today -- we're now back on the Info Team for definite :)

Ai Caramba!!! :D :p :)

My 14th Glastonbury and Deb's 15th!

This may well be generally known already, but if you have a weakness for Rolf Harris, he's definitely playing the JazzWorld stage this year

Three quarters of the way down that interview :

Q. Last time you played a festival and what is coming this year?

A. I’ve done Glastonbury for four years and I’ll be there again this year on the Jazz stage. I can’t wait cos I always have a great time and one year they said I was best entertainer. I’ve seen signs like ‘I’d like to didgeridoo you, Rolf’ [laughs].

:)
