"Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies"
"Well stop fucking clapping then"

My favourite Bono anecdote. :)

Two things, both of which I reckon will just make a teeny-tiny contribution to the uncooling of Glastonbuiry. In years to come, I'll be blamed for the downfall. Sort of.

1/ I've fiiiiinally done a new map.

There's new videos and stuff, but better, there's a museum bit showing how it's got bigger over the years. You've got wiskey to thank for that idea, although I've not yet really raided her splendid collection of memorabilia.

If you've already downloaded GlastoEarth, just fire up Google Earth. If you see you've got the 2009 banner, you're good to go. If not...

2/ The beeb end package from last year. It's 95% cheesily what you'd expect, but there's a few nice bits.

"Just chilling out... drinking the cider... living the life" More of that stuff please mr beeb.

woot! I've just had a message from one of the organisers that I worked with last year, asking if I'm set for glastonbury

IT'S ON!!! :D

and woot @ blur :D

wooooohooo! Can I see your face when I go to Glasto? Can I meet it? And that is meant in the creepiest way possible.

I think I might faint with lust when I see Blur.

you do know that we've already met, don't you? :hmm:

Yeah but that doesn't count. The only thing I remember saying to you is 'TANKY!' and you going 'electogirl, mighty boosh?' and then me going 'YEAH!'

And then the next thing I remember is waking up at JTG's house.

So apparently Michael Jackson is playing at the 02 in the summer - wonder if he could play Glasto? :p

I think a Jacko greatest hits set would be loadsa fun  (awaits being bashed to death by everyone else who thinks its a stupid idea :hmm:)

Not so much a stupid idea, just that it's profoundly unlikely. Just because he's doing a mega gig at O2 sometime in the summer (dates not even specified yet!) really is the poorest basis possible for hoping he'll appear at Glasto too ...

naah, it is a stupid idea as well.

Kylie has good camp kitsch value, Jacko doesnt. Tho it might be amusing to see him getting pelted with mud

Right then... if I've pulled all the right levers and flicked the appropriate switches, there should be a new web site at www.glastoearth.com

Apart from a bit of a spruce up on the design, the main change is that it's now home to Tort's definitive Glastonbury FAQ, which he's updated for 2009.

And now in nice convenient bite size chunks! :D

Likely site changes: Queens Head to go where Left Field was, Cinemas sharing with existing Acoustic field, and the sorry band of liggers that would normally be camped in central backstage get shunted out to where the cinemas were. Charlie Brooker's "Backstage shaped concrete block" might need refashioning then ;)

Queens head where the leftfield tent was is a better location. The volume of the Leftfield interfered with it IMO and there were some good acts in there.

I think you mean sound clash from the Other stage. :)

Yes, I think it's a good move too - although William, who may be working at the nearby info point isn't looking forward to the volume!

(((William's Ears)))

Sounds like a reasonable decision to move things around.

Does that mean that there may not be a bar right side of the Other Stage anymore?

If the backstage camping is moved out, will they shrink the backstage area or is something else going in there?

Not sure about a replacement bar on the right. The Queens Head moved there in 2005... was there a bar there in 2004 or earlier? Not sure myself... wondering if there's a precedent that will be reverted to. If not, there's the Glade bar right behind?

I don't think the "interstage area" will shrink. I'm guessing they want to clear the non-artist, non-production staff people, to make space for those actually involved and their supporting equipment. There was never that much 'free camping space' there anyway.

All good I think. :)

I'm not sure either. Looking at a 2002 sitemap, there appears to be a beer symbol there.

Makes a lot of sense. I wonder if that means the hospitality passes won't get the cut-through anymore?
