Glastonbury 2008

If it's a mainly sunny/mainly dry one this time, the relief I will feel at my not going through with my mad thoughts of missing it will be immense!

In any case, the list of  bands/acts I want to see is impossibly long, and thats without factoring in all the random wandering and bonkers discoveries. If I see a quarter of what looks cool, I'll be happy ....

Deb, the crazy rock and roller, will be sad to miss Buddy Guy, I will be to miss Massive Attack, but they're about the only serious downsides of working.

So we'll go and see Shaky and Dreadzone to make up for it :D :p

Hope this hasn't already been posted .....

Shaky -- a true underground hero

Petridis said:
Lesser men might question the wisdom of employing someone dedicated to the overthrow of capitalism to handle your business affairs, but Shaky is of fearless cast, as demonstrated by his auto-destructive stage act - he tears down stage curtains in Cardiff, kicks drinks into punters' laps in Walsall, sets an audience member's hair on fire in London, and, at perhaps his most triumphant moment, climbs on a diner's table during a corporate Christmas party gig, puts his foot in a bowl of salad and shouts, "Scream, damn you! You would scream for Tom Jones, so you can scream for me!" Suddenly, the stuff about him inventing punk seems marginally less insane.

You know you're going to give him a try on the Saturday :p

Starting to get the blues about not going now.
Although I have lots of valid and logical reasons to not go it still hurts.

This time next week people will be queuing to get on site :(

Hope the weather is good

:)

Oh blooming 'eck!! The mister has informed me that I am wholly responsible for designing/creating/providing the flag. How the hell? What the hell? :hmm:

Considering I have immense trouble drawing stick men...... help?!

FFS!! I posted a really positive one earlier today. Why aren't people glad that there may be some nicer weather?

Because it's just a forecast and therefore in all probability will be almost entirely wrong! It'll be great if we get some decent weather but I'm not going to start celebrating just because some weathergeek says "we might get some nice weather, but there again...." :p

I'll have a look at the forecast next Tuesday evening but still go prepared for all eventaulities because even 5 days in advance the chances of it being accurate for the entire festival are minimal at best!

i really hope the weather's great for you all. :) shakin' stevens would be cool to see, because when else would you see him?

Sitting in your dry comfy house, not giving a shit is pretty easy.

But what will be will be.
Obsessing endlessly about it isnt going to make it any different. It hasnt happened yet FFS
If its a washout it will be a washout, if its glorious it will be glorious and if its somewhere in between its somewhere in between

Bottom line is, so what? Its a weather forecast. Its a festoval, just go with the flow, theres a week to go before the start then we will find out what happens wont we? And we'll deal with it however we deal with it.
Constant weather forecasts wont change any of it!

Chill out!

You weren't there last year no?

It was a total mudbath :(, and 2004 and 2005 were also pretty wet and muddy at times., Some of us regulars (not all are too bothered, admittedly) are pretty damn keen for this year to be dry. I'm offering information principally, up to you if you don't want to read my posts or check the links. But some people will do.

Great, lovely it was horrible. I think thats pretty widely known..
You seem to be on some sort of strange one man obsessive crusade to predict the weather to the Nth degree...

Everyone knows it might go either way... if its sunny we'll all sit in the sun, if it isnt we'll all dance in the rain. or shiver in tents, get stuck in the mud

Weather weather weather and more forecasts isnt actually going to change the weather we're given next week is it?
YOu can be as keen as you like. I dont want it to rain but posting about it wont send mgical "Dont rain" spells down upon us all.

William I have to confess I haven't read anything you've posted on this thread for about a week because its all been weather related and frankly if it rains I'll find shelter, if its cold i'll find a jumper and if its sunny I'll buy an ice cream.

:)
perfect :)

Talking about the weather is all part of the build up though , nobody takes it too seriously but dont pretend that if you were having a BBQ at the weekend you wouldnt take a peek at the weather forcast .

Yup. I like all the weather predictions although I am much more bothered about it this year than I have been previously. :)

err, i think you're being a little harsh. Everyone has their little foibles and i think its widely appreciated (across the whole festival net) that this is william's.

we only have 2 more days of it, i'm sure we can indulge him :)

Thanks for that wiskers. I think LMHF is being quite harsh, she wasn't here last year, and didn't experience the horrors (which after all, didn't really stop us enjoying ourselves, the Sunday perhaps excepted!).

When she meets me (?) onsite, she'll find me very different ;)

And the reasons for my 'foibles' (aka paranoia!) are obvious and not unique to me -- after last year, mud aversion isn't such a strange perversion!

right now, I'm a little less optimistic than before, but I'll spare you the details!

The weather forecast is so uneliable at the moment.

However Wimbledon and Glasto generally mean guaranteed rain

:)

Wiskey's words that you quoted are a good philosophy alright, but they ARE the counsel of perfection.

Bossily intructing someone (me) to 'just chill out' about it (LMHF), after 2004, 2005 and especially 2007 is probably counterproductive. Fourth mudbath on the trot? We'll deal with it if it happens, obviously, and all have fun, me included, but come on! It's perfectly normal to prefer avoiding an apocalypse!

A little more understanding and empathy please .... I'll be offline from Saturday.

The weather forecast is so unreliable at the moment.

However Wimbledon and Glasto generally mean guaranteed rain

:)

The word 'generally' allows for exceptions, which may still happen this time .... I've been in resistance to (denial of?) the mudbath inevitablists since last year.

Mudbath Glastos were not 'inevitable' in the 1989-1995 and 1999-2003 periods ... ;)

YOu can be as keen as you like. I dont want it to rain but posting about it wont send mgical "Dont rain" spells down upon us all.

Like I was claiming that!

In the post of mine from yesterday, with the possibly transient good forecast for next week, the post that that you were objecting to originally, I was trying to emanate a few positive vibes ....

No guarentees were claimed ever ....

It's the next few days that are crucial - if the site's already saturated by the time you arrive you're pretty much fucked, if it's dry then a bit of rain on the day won't matter as much.

We're all going to go regardless of the weather, so what's the point in worrying about it now?

Worry? I don't worry, no point in worrying about things you cant change.

I don't go for masochistic reasons, I go because its fucking amazing. I saw some great bands last year, Arcade fire, Holy Fuck, Chemical Brothers, ColdCut and Seasick Steve to name a tiny selection. Listen to some very engaging spoken word and saw some cracking comedy. Ate loads of nice food.

I just like to know up front what I am going to deal with. Dealing with it before you get there is a lot easier given some psych up time, in that american whooping, punching the air way, than deluding myself and getting pissed off once i'm there.

The place is fab, but when the sun's out, well....

Plus its your first, so I want it sunny so you see why people go and not why people don't.
