Glastonbury 2008

Phil Hartnol did remixed Orbital set at Endorsit. Plagued with sound issues, but proved only one of them needed.

hehe

I have understood that a rogue group was identified and will not be back this year. Cant remember which forum I read that from or whom though.

I'm guessing it was the team led by the woman with the crew cut, operating around the park. She sounded like a nasty bit of work, and was obviously too stupid to realize her distinctive appearance (in the context of her job) would mean that repeat incidents would soon be traced back to her.

I've not read myself about the conclusion, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if she has been barred.

Music, or 'security'? :p ;)

ETA : ahh OK, I get the context from paolo.... all good if the exclusion thing is true

(Mind you, I've heard stuff about (very) rogue elements in the Dance Village (Tort, that was Flip's unpleasantness story).

I was rarely at the Park ... tell me more over our next pint? ;) :hmm:

Regarding the Park security; I observed a security guard going well over the top with a kid who had a beer and no ID, dragging him about and just getting all unnecessary. i've worked in venues and nightclubs for years and i had a to have a word with him after.

other than that i quite liked the park. Saturday night in that little tent up the top with my mates band Dubious was proper mental good fun.

I've got tix and may try and pitch up to the cider bus this year.

The usual. Thursday when you can make it, if I'm not working I'll be there.

So who would like to explain the cider bus to me? Please? :)

And anything else I may need to know about of course! :D

It's a bus that sells cider! ;) Because the cider is good, proper stuff that's seen an apple and the bus is at a decent location (by the Pyramid Stage) it tends to be used as a location for internet meets. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the people around it at any time are having assorted internet meets!

The cider they sell, unfortunately isn't that great, I usually get a pint from the bar normal bar, which I'm now sells Gaymers cider which I quite like.

Yeah the thing about various inter-de-net meets at the Bus of Drunkenness is true! :)

May there be several!!

Yeah I also hear (quoted  ) that the Park wasn't too special last time, but I only went there once ... however what Tort said about Africa Express there last year sounded like it could be great just then. Want to give it another chance in non muddy conditions .....

Hearing also that the layout of the Park is being rethunk including relocated Tipis and Bimble Inn nearby ... :)

I was looking at the festival site the other day and saw that the Tipi field is now 400 tipi's in size?

Thats one hell of a field and clearly not the original location. Looks like the place has had a massive expansion in size.

That has been my biggest complaint of last year, does the largest festival in the country really need to get any bigger?

It could still do with more camping space (which I suppose the tipi field is) but as for the rest of it I think it's already pushing things size wise. Having said that, the addition of the Park area was, IMO, a good thing, as it should take some of the pressure off the rest of the main site (though the weather pissed on that somewhat last year.)

Sunray, if you worry about overcrowding, and were concerned about that last year specifically, don't forget that the mud was a huge factor in compressing crowds into smaller, solider spaces/paths and to a massive exent. So 2007 ws not a fair test. This year will have no more crowds than last, and if we have that shiney yellow thing in the sky that we both crave this time ;) people will spread out a lot lot more :)

:) Thanks! Wasn't sure if it was a general thing or an Urban-specific thing.

:D

Your conviction regarding good weather comes through whether you mean it to or not! :D

I do hope you're right though, going back (briefly) to ticket sales the biggest single factor that's stopped me going in the past and stopped those of my friends most likely to have gone this year is the weather, and the inordinate amounts of mud. Jay-Z's played his part but I suggested getting tickets last year and the words 'no', 'rain' and 'mud' were thrown at me pretty much one after the other way before his name was mentioned.

Oh I mean it all right , but I will take it round the boots (not on the chin!!!) in the unlikely :D event that I end up wrong ...

Yeah that's influencing many many people .... :(

You mean from what you read on the official site?

I think it's probably just a consolidation of the two rental Tipi areas from 2007, into a single location. The 'owner' Tipis will be nearby too, and as William says, the Bimble Inn is heading up there.

The fence is shifting up the hill a bit, over in Pennards, to make a 'new' open space for people to sit and take in the view, as they already do around the stones.

But there's no extra people going, so I think the expansion this year can only be a good thing, no?

Glastonbury.... fab time about 20 odd years ago...went over the fence in the pouring rain....it rained some more...got trashed...saw Van Morrison...but didn't know who the fat fuck at the piano was...so went off in search of booze....

Africa Express on the Saturday night in the Park pretty much saved my Glastonbury last year. Totally lucked into it as well.

Likewise , managed to sit down on one of the sofas for 30 mins then on came AExpress , fantastic . If I remember correctly , it was right after that that I made the epic journey across the entire site to catch the last 3/4 of The Broken Family Band . I had managed to stay upright until then but in my keeness to get there on time I fell over twice and got covered in mud and my foot came out of my welly and got wet too . Was worth the effort .:D

Its not over crowding I'm talking about.

Its so massive already, this inexorable upward push on size over the years, surely there has to be some sort of sensible upper limit to the size of a festival?

Its already so big that you can only really get to see what 5% of what is on offer over the three days. Your ticket goes to pay for it all. Wouldn't it be better to have less stuff of higher quality. You still wouldn't be able to see any of it but what you did see was better overall?

While I agree that a a reduction in punter numbers (say by 25,000?) would be nice, that's not going to happen in the current licence period (covering the fests up to 2010).

Over the current period, we're stuck with the current numbers. Given that, let's try and look at it positively -- there's talk above of the fence being moved outwards near the Stone Circle to make more space, and stuff paolo (and Tort)?) knows much more about concerning redesign of the layout for this year in several areas to accomodate the numbers. Plus a dry Glastonbury would have the effect -- very noticeable I reckon -- of dispersing and decompressing the hoardes :)

I liked the Park too, it's a great addition, but was hard to walk up their in the mud at times. However we were camped in Pennards so it was handy to have a bar up there.

That little tent at the top was great, I think it was Saturday night when we were lying around on proper beds and there was a great band on doing all sorts of messed up covers including Jungle Book singalongs :)

My Italian and Columbian friends had a very confused look on thier faces when the rest of us were singing along to 'the bare necessities' :D

I also caught the end of Africa Express and that was very
