Glastonbury 2008

I hate to be picky but you said

I'm not denying for one moment that the alternative festival circuit and the festival scene in general is more healthy now than it has probably ever been. But to suggest that NONE of this would exist without Glastonbury would appear to be a little blinkered.

Ok you picky bastard, if it wasnt for Glastonbury the festival scene wouldnt be as healthy as it is now. How's that:p ;) :D

Do people sell drugs openly at glasto any more?
A bit. Not half as much as they used to. But that might have been the rain and the mud, tbf.

Glastonbury this years was one of the most awsome emotional and exciting experiences of my life. :)

I had been only once b4 and admittedly my enjoyment was aided by having at least 20 of my loony friends there, and working on painting bins for the 2 months previous to it.

Mr Eavis says that it's got too respectable and middle class which is a cool thing to say, but he was obviously nowhere near us dressed up freaks and our replica penis water pistols which we attached to our groins.
Or for that matter the crazy dudes in full wrestling regalia who were randamly body slamming folks in the mud. or even.....

well you get the picture.

P.s im middle class:D

I was stood talking to my mate at the 2004 festival as he was openly selling a very small bowl of hash truffles.
next thing, he was in the back of a minibus talking to half a dozen coppers.

*sucks teeth* tings aint like they used to be for sure

I almost miss the balaclaved, macheted up gangs, selling bits of rolled up binliner as hash.
I always thought they were best avoided but loved the fact that they had such a healthy disrespect for the law

Which reminds me - when does the council health&safety report come out? That's always the best bit...

Looking forward to it, will post link when I get one.

That report will, I'm sure, give full detail on all the best places onsite to score drugs from open sale.

Mendip Council H & S dudes know the score, maaan :p

;)

Nah, they smoke the surplus for thesmselves, these days ;)

That, or you need to ask Mendip Council H & S inspectors ... ;) :p

If you don't know where to get 'given' some smoke or a pill onsite by a 'mate', you're not trying hard enough .... who TF needs advertising?

Couldnt agree more! Giving drugs out to nice looking people is so much better than standing at the bridge going 'black ash, black ash';)

I'm wondering whether it'll be worthwhile given that so many of my good mates aren't going :(

I am toying with the idea of giving it a miss next year too. Go to lots of smaller festies instead but like JTG a couple of mates already said they're not going to any - getting too old for it (wtf? they're the same age as me!).

people are weird. some I know 'grew out' of all that at 21 or so, others are still going in their thirties and forties.

there's no such thing as 'too old' for it, just people's tastes change at different ages.

ho hum.

I outgrew several groups of friends when I was younger.
Gets quite annoying having to keep renewing your social life but i'm thankfully slowing down a bit myself now.

So you've grown out of growing out? :)

Can't let that one go. Yes, there's been several people posting on this thread saying they're giving it a miss in 2008 (and possibly forever! ) and I'm sad about them not showing next year myself.

But as you say yourself, there's plenty others still going even into their thirties and forties.

We need the old schoolers to keep coming, don't lets leave it all to the noobs!!!

;)

And firky -- you will be there I predict. Think of not being there, just watching on TV, and knowing that those of us who are there are going through the sunniest, scorchingest, most party-packed Glastonbury ever .....

oh yes and with Radiohead on the bill too ... ;) <----for firky's benefit ....

Its actually quite difficult not going to glastonbury, especailly as i have to see the build up going on for weeks, all my mates heading over there one by one to set it up and then the buzz getting stronger and stronger with all the festival goers coming through town too
I was determined not to go in 2005 but got dragged into the 'energetic' slipstream of it and had a great time anyway.

I would like to see radiohead though

bah, theres loads of time to decide yet
