Glastonbury 2008

I'm not so sure that it will now to be honest unless they decide to re-open registration or ditch the whole photo id thing altogether. Surely everybody who genuinely was interested in going this year would have made sure they got their ticket yesterday. There may be a few waverers who still decide to go but I can't imagine there will be too many who are prepared to go through the coach ticket shambles in order to get there at this stage.

In the next two weeks they don't feel like they are going to get the numbers, then they will have to re-open registration. Perhaps ditch the Coach ticket combo as well, if its a problem. Way too in flexible to be of sense to all but the desperate. Whats wrong with train ticket combos that are flexible. Train is so much more environmentally friendly anyway.

I do feel that people have this 'impossible to get tickets' tag attached to it now. Its been such a pain in the past, its a well deserved moniker. Also made it hard to come with a group of mates which has also had a negative effect. People want to go with their mates.

Guess this would be the case this year.
They will still get a good amount of sales coming in and doubt Eavis will go bust with 100,000 + sold.
Might mean that the good causes get less this year though?

Organiser Michael Eavis is also denying newspaper reports that Jay-Z is about to pull out of headlining Glastonbury.

He said: "I don't know where that story comes from. It's absolute rubbish.

"We spoke to their people yesterday and they're absolutely all full of it.

"We're extremely proud to have him play here, I have to say that."

That doesn't surprise me about JZ's people. Good photo on the article though... http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/music/newsid_7333000/7333920.stm

I dunno, thats 5 million quids worth of tickets unsold.

Still a hot glastonbury with a bit more space (due to 30 000 unsold tickets ;) ) and people will be purring bout her next year again.

This will be the first year for as long as I car to remember I will have missed the festival. It saddens me that such a great festival has come to this. There is no way it shouldent sell out in a few hours.

I hope you are right and things are back on track by next year.

I guess...
The additional camping space is not gonna be that much though.

I have always loved Glasto and am sad to not be going. Out of a big group of us that have always gone at least 50% have dropped out this year. Must be getting old I guess?

Thing is people just don't want the buses. They represent poor value for money and a major major hassle. Last year it was all a bit 'it's your only chance to get to the festival so live with it'. Well it looks like a lot of people have reacted accordingly.:(

Well we've finally got our internet back and virgin have definitely lost my custom now after fucking up on the worst weekend possible.

I am amazed it hasn't sold out, on MSN news it says that Jay-Z is considering pulling out as he seems to be getting the blame for it!

I was really wavering on whether to buy tickets and even saturday night me and magic sam sat with madamv debating whether to go or spend the money on a week in the sun. I had a look at the line-up and there's stuff rumoured I was excited about, thought about how I'd feel that weekend when it was on and bit the bullet. I'm really glad I did, I'm really excited now and although I'm sad that madamv and mr v aren't coming this year my bezzer is coming so that will be

Roll on June.:D

Is it too early to start packing?

With the amount you take? Best to have started last week!

I know I will be miz when its all on, but I really dont have the quids to justify it, and especially as we dont take the bubs.

I have Endorseit though - yey!

I bought my ticket in the re-sale because I decided not to work and had to get a coach ticket. It worked out ok for me (apart from having to give directions to the driver and kicking up a fuss when he tried to dump us at the showground) because my mates took my stuff in their van but it would have been an expensive festival if we had all got the coach.

We took loads of our own booze and because we had cool boxes full of ice had cold drinks all weekend, madamv took her camping stove and kettle and brought bacon and eggs for breakfasts which saved us loads. We couldn't have taken half the stuff we did on the coach. Our tent alone is huge and the luggage holds were crammed.

This is so true and is one of the objections that was levelled at Glastonbury by a couple of my mates who don't really understand the registration thing, they were under the impression that it was 'one application one ticket' and that one of us might get a ticket but not the rest, and then I was told that I could have got everyone a ticket if you were allowed 4 per application.......... I had to work hard to explain.

That was last night however, and was too late cos they didn't register. Still, they weren't so impressed with the line up and dont' go around talking to the world like I do so I suspect that Glastonbury is a long way further up my street than it is theirs. We shall see!

It has only sold out in a few hours for the last 2 or 3 years.

Even the first year or so after the superfence and no more getting in without a ticket, it took more than a day or two to sell out.

Giles..

As Giles says above, the 'selling out in a few hours' is a recent and not especially welcome phenomenon. Not sure what your point is.

Well yes, but things have changed in the ticket buying culture these days. V, The Carling Weekender, T in the Park etc all sell out within hours. Glastonbury should really piss all over these festivals in demand.

Oh don't get me wrong, I would love buying a ticket to be far easier and less stressful. I merely think that the slow sales are symptomatic of the general feeling of apathy to what used to be an unmissable festival.

Glastonbury pisses all over these festivals in so many ways. I was really surprised it didn't sell out yesterday but I don't see it as a reflection on the future of the festival or anything dramatic like that. Mostly (although some won't admit it) last year was a fucking slog. It was huge amounts of effort to do anything or go anywhere and being wet and soggy does not make for a chilled, fun festival even for experienced campers.

One year I went (99 I think) I had to keep badgering HMV to see when they were getting tickets, got down there at 6am on the day and there was no-one else there til 8.30.

The apathy isn't about the festival, though - it's about the weather and the general ticket hassles in previous years.

For me my apathy is the change in vibe. A few others have said this as well. Ive done wet years, crowds, theiving and all that before. Just not quite the same festival it used to be.

Glastonbury isn't the same as it was for my first in 1993, but I'm not 21 any more. Yes, it's changed, but I reckon my perception of it has changed more than the reality.

I think there are a number of factors. Yes the weather and ticketing have been a problem but you only have to look back over this thread and many others like it to see that issues such as rising cost, general vibe, paucity of late night entertainment etc have all played there part.

Of a group of friends at least 15 strong who go every year only 5 are going this year, and bare in mind we are all veterans of the 97 & 98 mud and the 2000 horror show. My experience is not unique either.

However I am seeing this as a positive thing. An opportunity for the festival to reasses itself and try and go back to what they do best, running a bloody great party, they are not a travel agent for coach parties etc etc.

There's been more late night entertainment available in recent years than ever before. Not just at Lost Vagueness either.

Lost Vagueness and entertainment were pretty much mutually exclusive in my experience. The best late night stuff for me was always in the cafe bars and slightly whiffy bars. There seems to be less of that now. :(
