Glastonbury 2008

Got my confirmation email around an hour or two after we got through on the web.

We kind of knew we had got in by the "these numbers have been used" message, but its nice to be sure.

Giles..

it's all good. i expect it to be a good year. the fuckhaired masses have grown tire of the mud, so we're back to the old school daft buggers again.

no, youre right, im just expressing surprise. and a bit of 'doh!' -ness cos i was up at 9am clicking away for two and half hours when i could have had a lie-in..

this years my first year as well, after many years of not having money/forgetting to register/giving up on the phone line. and im trying to be as un-cynical as possible; every year there seems to be more moaners than ever that 'its not the same as it used to be'. i have to learn to ignore these cunts and pretend this is the first glasto ever - which for me, it is! waaaaaaaayyy

Could be a great 1st year!!

don't worry about what people say it should be/could be/used to be, just enjoy it for how you find it and I'm sure you'll have a ball :)

To think i woke up at 7am all nervous over this, and spent an hour and a half refreshing and phoning

Did think it odd though the bbc news site wasn't covering the sales, though they did cover the last day to register thing earlier on. Also thought it oddly quiet on here. To be fair, my gf isn't going, and some friends were sounding a little unfussed to go through the hassle of applying.

So, given the fence jumping traveller green field set has gone, and the tipi field will apparently also not be there this year, then it's definitely going to be a different festival again. But who did apply and who didn't? That's the quandary...

If you're right, then ace...

Only just got onto the Winternet, having been away in Dorset and off it since 1:30 pm Friday ...

SEE YOU THERE for those who succeeded in getting tickets  .

We're near-certain to be working, we filled in our applications for our jobs at 2 pm today :D , in our rustic pub in Dorchester**

It was really nice to be unstressed for the first time since 2003, but commiserations to those who had to endure online fuckups and dodgy error pages ... :(

**The Blue Raddle, 9 Church Street, Dorchester, best real ale and proper scrumpy pub in the town :p

GOOD IN YOU, those with positive optimistic attitudes :) :)

Newbies and oldschoolers alike.

It's going to be a scorcha, and even the most cynical of veteran refusniks ;) will not I reckon be able to avoid a just a little bit of regret that they opted out this time, once they see the TV coverage and hear stories of an utterly classic one with people dividing their Glasto time between madly partying in the sunshine, and sitting around in the sunshine! :)

Fuck the headliners, the vibe and the undercard will be where it's at ...

:D

Do you really think that people who aren't going will be bothered with the piss-poor, misrepresentative celebathon that is the TV coverage? :D

OK fair point, probably not, but reports will filter out nevertheless, one way or t'other, of how things are going down there.

Given a week of delightful weather (not even hot necessarily, just dry and sunny! ... not so much to ask in late June ... ) and I refuse to believe that some folks won't think 'Shit, I could have been there and I'm missing a good'un!'

I don't say all refuseniks are in this category, but I bet there'll be some ...

Woke up on Sunday morning and spoke to a few people who were battling for tickets. Everyone I know that was trying got sorted out, with only a few problems reported.

Felt odd to not be involved with the process but was nice to lose the stress.

Im sure youll have a scorcher there this year Will. Enjoy.

Got tickets, though it was still a stressfull affair (not helped by a mate giving the wrong post code. Grr) or the hangover.

Couldn't give a toss if Jay-Cloth's playing or not - I'm sure I'll find something else to do!

Even if they reopen registration I dont think I will go for it this year. The threat of having to put up with a coach fiasco like last year is just too much of a turn off. Id guess its only coach tickets that are left.

Well despite my earlier angry comments I am glad to see that people have been able to get tickets without the usual hysteria. Maybe its the computer system, but I would guess its the bad experiences of last year, including coach tickets, that is responsible for the current 'not sell out'. But I am posative they will sell out in due course. I will be looking forward to hear if it is improved or worse than last year... I couldn't go even if I had registered - got a wedding to go to.

I think there were still some normal tickets avaiable this morning. I totally agree with you on the coach front. I dident use them last year but the horror stories that came out must have alienated a lot of people.

If there'd been a bit more flexibility with the coach tickets there wouldn't have been so much of a problem, but having people drive half way up or down the country to get a coach to take them to the festival did miss the point somewhat!

I'll be doing the train from Paddington again, and hopefully not a commuter train this time. It wasn't nice for us or the commuters.

No it was coachs not turning up, people being directed to the wrong coaches, people being left sat in fields for hours and hours waiting for coaches to take them home. It was people not being able to get the extra day of needed for the coaches it was the uncomfortable cramped coach journey and the additional expense of not really being able to buy your alcohol offsite.

I loved the two times I went by train.

Nope, still normal ones left.

It'll sell out, of that I have no doubt, but it is quite telling that demand is so down this year.

I'm not so sure that it will now to be honest unless they decide to re-open registration or ditch the whole photo id thing altogether. Surely everybody who genuinely was interested in going this year would have made sure they got their ticket yesterday. There may be a few waverers who still decide to go but I can't imagine there will be too many who are prepared to go through the coach ticket shambles in order to get there at this stage.

I reckon that a big pump on Radio 1 and reopening registration should go along way to getting the numbers up. God alone knows what new innovations the old lady will come up with to 're-engage' with its audiance.

Still a hot glastonbury with a bit more space (due to 30 000 unsold tickets ;) ) and people will be purring bout her next year again.
