Glastonbury 2008

It's a fair comment on the way that some aspects of the festival are heading, William.

I disagree -- or rather, I think 'some aspects' is too vague to be very meaningful.

There's been an oldie slot on the Sunday afternoon for a while though. Rod Stewart FFS!

I would agree that Neil Diamond is particularly bland though, which is why I'll be avoiding him, he annoys me a lot. Because I can avoid him! Loads else to do. Probably including a banging drum and bass tent or something ...

Paolo''s comment on there being 500 other acts stands. ND isn't any more representative of the rest, than was Tony Bennett a few years back.

Wait til all the other acts are known, is what I say ... OK I know Leonard Cohen is rumoured too, and possibly even Eric Clapton!!** but there'll be loads of others young as well as old.

Should those old farts the Pistols be excluded? Cos they're rumoured too! :p

**Later ETA : forget that Eric Clapton rumour, nothing to it, it now seems.

I thought Neil Diamond's 2006 album '12 Songs' was actually rather good. Stripped down torch songs for the most part, and no shiny-jacket lounge or jazz singer bollocks.

I'll not see him, mind.

I'm getting excited again, to tell the truth.

I've heard that Neil Diamond will be the only act there :D

Not a single other one

Numpty!

I am sure it's possible for Glastonbury to become even more of a parody of its former self, but having Niel Diamond as a headliner is going to take some beating. Mind you Eavis' authoritarian tent peg stance will help. That and the fact he is dissing his own festival for having too many old people at it - because its so bloody expensive they're the only ones who can afford to go! Glastonbury: was good, now rubbish.

"laydeee in red" at the pyramid stage with all the mudsoaked loose bowelled IT crowd? no waaay. I'm leaving the country for the 2nd to last weekend of June.. I cannot even risk seeing it on TV!

I think it's a bit bollocks, but I can see why if there's loads left afterwards and they're hurting cows. Same as people complaining about the Piss Police and not realising that 120K people pissing in local streams and in the fields completely fucks local eco-systems and rivers.

How the feck is he going to FORCE people to use eco tent pegs? Search them before they go for the iris scan and dna test for ticket registration?

Are you not going this year either then?
nope. sparrow has very limited holiday allowance while she's on her course, and this just doesn't seem worth it. I'm not sure my sanity could have taken another muddy one either.

Definitely on for endorset though, and probably one other small festival this year.

1. Neil Diamond isn't headlining, he's playing in the afternoon.

2. Chris de Burgh did Lady In red.

The rest is opinion.

Or perhaps ask everyone to leave tent pegs at home and then hands out eco ones on demand?

I think your dislike of glastonbury is blunting your Occam's razor.

I was putting my son to bed the other night, and asked him what he wanted to do tomorrow. He asked "Can we go to Glastonbury again?" :)

He's 3. I'll be registering this weekend:)

Suggestion : If you hate Glastonbury so much, why not think about buggering off out of this thread? Your only purpose of being here is to snipe and be ultra negative about a festival you plainly hate.

Any valid criticisms there are, and there are a good few including some that I myself have spelt out at times, will come much better from someone who isn't determined to grotesquely exaggerate everything perceived to be bad about Glastonbury, sneer at everything about Glastonbury, paint everything whatsoever about Glastonbury in a 100% negative light, and who is incapable of posting anything positive about the bloody thing at all.

You're not even fucking going, you miserable wanker, so what odds is the presence or absence of Neil Diamond (who I hate, btw) to you?

Actually, are you ever positive about anything at all, you sneering little shit?

While I am relieved and embaressed at the Chris De Burgh / Niel Diamond mix up, but I was thinking of Eavis' quote from the Beeb article that they were going to 'force' people to use eco tent pegs. Frankly I don't care what happens, but an afternoon thinking that my ex-favourite festival was going to have Chris De Burgh playing at it has put me right off.

That was a WINDUP of a story, you stupid arse -- one designed for sneering Glasto-loathing tossers like you to WANT to believe. Looks like you fell for it. Numpty.

WoW you are the ultimate Glasto-evangelist and I don't expect to change your opinion for one minute. Your adherance to total accuracy in all glasto related information (apart from shamanistic weather predictions) is laudible. Sorry to have upset you.

But I am not going to refrain from posting my opinions on Glasto, especially if they are negative. I am fed up with the satuaration glasto-propaganda from all quarters.

Less abuse please.

I'm off in one sec (for the weekend in fact!) and point taken

But just a suggestion, maybe something PROVOKED said abuse, even handedness please. Perhaps bouncer's repeatedly coming into this thread for the sole purpose of sneering at people who aren't enlightened enough to hate Glastonbury as thoroughly as he does, and his determination to post grotesquely exaggerated and relentless negativity about the fest might be taken note of too?

An opinion's one thing, but a relentless campaign of ultra exaggerated and unrelieved negativity is another.

I've plenty of criticisms of Glastonbury myself btw, but all BTD is doing is making me want to defend the place against distorted smears.

Then play the ball, not the man. Thanks :)

Apologies for abuse.

Criticisms are one thing -- I have plenty myself that you've ignored me posting about in the past. But it's quite another to believe every stupid negative story, want to believe it, gleefully seize on it however dubious it's accuracy, and be DETERMINED to ignore any good stuff at all, not even acknowledge that there's any good. Your near-hysterical hatred of the thing is very grating.

I'm not an evangelist, just a bit more balanced than you. Like all large cities, there are goods and bads.
