Glastonbury 2007 pt1: the build-up

I got a text from Orange saying that the Arctics and Bjork had both confirmed they were playing.

Tickets permitting I think I will be able to find more interesting things to do than watch the Arctic Monkeys.

Loving the campsite talk!! :)

Oh yes, Glasto organisers -- definitely book I'm From Barcelona** for somewhere at Glastonbury this year, please -- see relevant thread in Music

**they're not ;)

Bjork's playing?

*faints*

I have to stop thinking about Glastonbury, just in case I don't get a ticket :( I'm buggering off this thread until I have good news.

Some news for William....

They are dropping Budwiser as one of the sponsors and picking up Carlsberg instead because their ethical policies are better.

At least it's not carling...(where's the sick smilie when you need one)

Fleeting visits only in the (working) daytime, these days

No time to do justice to some partly good news I'm getting from elsewhere ...

I'm hearing that Glastonbury have SACKED Ansheuser Busch (Bud Shiter) from sponsoring the beer tents. But details sketchy so far ... haven't had time to check. Maybe Tort knows more than I do.

The new 'beer' sponsors will apparantly be the not much better Carlsberg Tetley. OK call em somewhat less bad ...

This has possibly poor side-implications for 'bitter' in the general beer tents. If they replace Woodsfordes Wherry (or similar) with electrofizz Tetley 'bitter' I'll be well dischuffed ...

But I'd be surprised if they were in any way allowed to interfere with the actual real ale tent up in the Acoustic Stage field.

Also, the Cider Bus and Brothers Bar will be there as ever I'm sure.

Anyway, two cheers to Glasto at least, for getting rid ultra of corporate scumsuckers Budshiter, who you'll be glad to know I haven't time just now to rant against all the many and various particular evils of yet again .... ;)

And no 'The Crown' I'd have thought -- that was very much a Budshiter corporate vehicle ...

More when I'm not Urban-banned ... gotta go ...

Timing!!!

And the 'biggest band in the world' which he keeps teasing us with

He really likes Radiohead, so it could be them or Coldplay...

I'd rather it was Floyd with Waters
Coldplay (& U2) have specifically been denied. Radiohead sound a good possibility, unless he's going on sheer size alone, in which case it could be Saxon, as they're all fat bastards these days.

I'd heard rumours but nothing concrete.

I dunno, Polyphonic Spree have some combined weight.

Brand Awareness Promotion and Word of Mouth Marketing ....

I 'understand' ;) that Carlsberg have 3,500 free tickets to hand out to genuine and actual crusties, dreads, pierced people, tattooed people. general weirdos, festival veterans, road protest veterans, Travellers and any and every dolie and blagger quick enough off the mark to claim, on the condition that they drink SPECIAL BREW in prominently visible festie locations all week.

Slabs of 'Brew to be supplied from 'corporate hospitality' ;) :D :)

Re Carlsberg ...

Yer Festie Bossman gave a talk yesterday evening (Weds) at this event in which it would seem Mr Eavis mentioned the change of beer sponsorship, and in which he also confimed Bjork  and the Arctic Monkeys <yawn>

I'm sure the official Glasto site, or some other one somewhere, has a proper report of what he said ... can't find a link right now cos it's late and I'm lazy innit ... :p

Loads of confusion about this elsewhere.

I too thought RCHP had been turned down, but some have interpreted what Michael said as NOT ruling them out. Others think 'Worlds Biggest Band' might be taken to mean Pink Floyd ...

Fuck the mainstage lineup anyway ... :p ;)
