Eavis himself said last time that only around 3000 tickets were sold by touts, so it seems a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
but if it means that only people who really want to go get tickets...

last year I was camped by a woman from Bristol who went home before the bands started nevermind the rain! She was lonely she said.

I also had a friend who went home because of the toilets one year!

Just my tuppence worth. Could The Police be playing this year? Suprisingly they are reforming for the 30th Anniversary of Roxanne, and are touring in June....it was in the papers over the weekend.

eta - it was in the Independent.

to be honest, reading that it all seems so fucking stupid :( and I'm (not bees cos he loves it) not that fussed about all the hassle

I'm sure I'll change my mind soon enough though, but what a fucking shambles  like you say, seems a bit heavy handed :(

God yes it does seem a bit of a mission to get those tickets! I hope they don't sell our details to the Government! ;)

I want to go in the campervan this year. Has anyone ever been to Glasto in the campervan field?

The last time I went was '98 or something and I always camped in a tent (and got in free, either over the fence or with a free ticket ;) )

It's probably really different now, in terms of how rammed it is, innit.

Campervan notes generally, not just for Han:

We've been in our van since... well, whenever they started doing an official campervan field. Ages. The experience varies, tbh.

Last year and the year before we were in a field which was a reasonably short walk from the gate into the festival, but had no toilets or water tap. (not particularly a problem for us, but some peeps weren't happy) However the vehicles were reasonably spaced out and we didn't get blocked in or stuck in mud as some others did. In previous years we've been either a long walk (40 mins!!) from the festival, or had to be hauled out by tractors on the Monday.

In some ways it's much nicer than it used to be - pre-fence, the walk back to the van was a tad hairy, with loads of muggings. The fields were packed with vehicles parked dangerously close, and tents squashed in between, and campfires  . On the other hand, the very entertaining 24 hour Travellers' sound systems have been banished and the feeling of community has gone.

Plus points are the usual things about being in your van :) the minus points are the sometimes long queues to get in and out of the festival. Last year after the storm, we weren't allowed back in till 4pm because the lane was flooded, which was a problem for those needing food and toilets, but on the other hand, most people did all their drink and drugs whilst listening to the sound of the Undertones drifting up the hill :D

We only go back to the van to sleep (sometimes :D ) but keep a daypack containing warmer clothes/blankets for the evenings, waterproofs/sunscreen, BOOZE, bog roll etc. etc. permanently in one of the free lock-ups, dipping into it as necessary, so we can travel light round the site but have everything we need to hand.

Anyone considering going in a van should know that you will not be allowed to roll up in a Transit with a mattress in the back - you must have fitted cooking/sleeping equipment to be classed as a campervan. Searching of vans for drugs and glass bottles can be quite stringent by both security and police.

Moose - thanx for that!

Tis interesting. Sounds like it's pot luck in a way, whether you get a good spot or not. When you had the 40 mins long walk to the festie, was that in recent years?

I do like the idea of having a nice comfy bed, being able to take our own booze, etc. etc. but with a festie the size of Glasto, there are gonna be potential problems like you say, what with mud/queues etc. - still, I think the benefits of going in a van probably outweigh the disadvantages, as long as you come well-prepared (eg. bring a <eek> portaloo or something).

Did you take a porta loo in your van? Pinkmonkey and El Jugs bought one to the Big Chill a few years back and I have to say it was an absolute lifesaver. They deserved medals for sorting all that out, I can tell you! Especially as there were only hideously overflowing bogs in the field where we were.

A few chums have echoed what you said about the (lack of) travellers' field taking away alot of the Glasto spirit. I haven't been since the Colditz-style fence went up but I can imagine that a bit of the chaos/madness is going to be missing at the expense of health and safety. But if it stops people being mugged then that can only be a good thing....

But as you say, if the experience varies, then it's got to be worth a try cos if it works out it is totally  having a van at a festie!

The 40 mins walk was when Eavis rented someone else's fields for campervans a few years back. They do use different fields some years. If you go in on the Wednesday, you get a closer field, where it's about 10 - 20 mins from the gate to the van.

We don't have a portaloo - I'm usually so dehydrated after a day's excesses I couldn't wee if I tried, but I'd rather walk to another field for a loo (which are usually OK-ish) than have one in the van :D

It is better these days in many ways - we used to have people lighting fires between vans, and you'd come back and find someone parked so close you couldn't open the doors to get in. Also loads of people without tickets used to camp in the campervan fields for the week and entertain themselves by playing 'push the caravan down the hill' etc.

If you can get tickets, do it. It's a lot of fun.

That magazine article says Glasto is on 22-24 June this year - is this confirmed?

I know glasto is usually on the last weekend in June and 22-24 is the last FULL weekend but theres also friday 29 and saturday 30 of June.

Met 'er and mr moose at at least one pre-Urban75 Glasto

Moose = better festographer than I can ever hope to be.... :)

(I knew the DATES anyway ... :p )

'twas originally the solstice weekend, and so used to clash with Stonehenge. I've no idea when it changed, or why.

newbie I trust you are being ironic. Twas changed precisely to stop it becoming one big pagany traveller event.

<I've rented a campervan fot this year too>:p

sorry I don't get that. Funnily enough, not being a festographer I don't remember the dates for every festie, but I have a poster for the '82 festival here which says it was on fri 18 to sun 20 June. So it clashed with Stonehenge. The last Stonehenge was '84 which William says was the week before glasto. Did it change so that people could go to both?

I do remember going to both one year but I hated Stonehenge so much I didn't stay long.

Weird entry email - is it spam bollocks???

Look what I got sent at work:

Michael Eavis has announced that, this year, we all have to get an application form from Millets, which we then have to send in with a photo, before we can apply for tickets. Tickets will then go on sale on April 1 st.

is this shite?? Sorry if it's already been discussed but this thread is really long and I'm not going to read it
