Glastonbury 2005

nathansears and I have been back a couple of hours and I have just had a lovely hot bath-I was filthy.
Fantastic weekend but the mud made it really hard work.
Highlights- Hayseed Dixie and the Levellers( ).
Apparently they hold the record for the biggest Jazzworld Audience.
Lows-Seeing the devastation at the bottom of Pennards (luckily we were at the top), a friend of a friend woke up as she was floating away in her tent. It was horrible to see. :(

:(

The dirt that came out of my hair was scary  . The washing machine is now under heavy stress with the muddy clothes.

Mud aside - it was a superb festie. In the case of Master Felixthekitten/tiger, the mud made it. He should be in for a medal when slurry skidding is an olympic sport :D . Loads of highlights - Hayseed Dixie, the White Stripes, Ska Cubano, Zap Mama, people floating about in inflatable chairs, everything in Midnight's Carnival, and of course, meeting the lovely urbanites!

you lot want highlights?

Ok well:

best drugs go to the person who gave us some mushrooms ;) that resulted in us having an hilarious sat afternoon with the mooses

best band sing along goes to Beautiful South - I don't care that you will all think they're shit :p I love em AND they come from Hull

Best new act goes to both Hayseed Dixie (although I don't know the AC/DC tunes, that Banjo player was superb!) AND whoever the woman was in 'Plastic Dreams' in the circus tent - she shouldn't bend like that

Great to see Baka Beyond, Bhagdaddies and PeatBog Faeires again (I know I know, I'm a fucking hippy)

Lovely to meet new urbanites too, esp felixthecat - can you *please* send my apologies to your son, I'm sure I embarrased both me and him many times

Blimey what a weekend! I'm really loving all the flood horror stories, have a few of my own:

The bottom of Green Field flooded enough for the fire brigade to have to use a rubber life boat. Fire men also waded up to their necks in water to check the flooded tents for bodies.

A man was hit by lightening on the Friday night and was thrown 15 feet in the air clearing three tents.

PortaLoos eventually bobbed and floated as the water levels rose, inevitably tipping over and contributing their contents to the mud. People were still wading around bare foot in this filth last night.

This is my favourite:

20 police were called to a camping shop where customers were riotting over the last remaining wellies. :D

The mud was horrific at first, very deep and flowing in places but it was dealt with really well by the festival organisers and we were sitting on the grass last night as if nothing had ever happened.

It was lovely to meet so many urbanites, sorry to have not been able to meet more of you! Right...off to have bath now. Need to find out how much is suntan and how much is filth

Thats amazing .... I couldn't believe how deep the water was!...After hearing about all the rain and went looking for pics on the net (up a few posts) and it was like a lake! ...but good to hear everyone still had a good time...The Urban camp was up high and dry then?

I am sitting here all pink and clean, with a very fuzzy head indeed :)

Me and AS were up on the hill near camp urban, so the tent survived fine. It was horrible watching people struggle throught the collapsed tents and mud trying to get their things back :(

Highlights : Thursday's Shrooms. I came up almost immediately, but AS didn't feel anything, so she ate some more. And then some more, but it still wasn't working so she polished them off. Just as I was starting to come down, the rocket engine ignited and put her poor brain in a very funny place :)
Best Music : Blackbud at 2:15am in the unsigned bands tent (their Other Stage slot got rained off) - really crammed and a fantastic atmosphere. G-Love on Jazzworld was good too. Best of the weekend was 2 Many DJs. I was expecting a fun-fun-fun compliation of all their wacky mashups, but instead got 1-2 hours of the Best Techno Ever, with loads of knob twiddling, improvisation and crowd interaction/reading. It helped that we'd saved the pills for then, too...

Ach, there's too much to go in one post. It was fantastic though, one of the best. What am I going to do next year at the end of June?

*Agent Sparrow posting*

I think I've just had some of the most amazing 5 days of my life....

There's not really a lot more I can say at the moment, I'm still feeling a little overwhelmed emotionally by the whole thing at the moment. I think trying to write anything at the moment isn't going to do anything justice so maybe I'll leave my thoughts for now until we've got some photos to post up!

I think I might be hooked from now on! :)

Great also to finally meet a few lovely urbanites that I had not crossed paths with yet. :)

<edit> oh, and and apologies for anyone who attempted to speak to me Thursday night at the cider bus when my social skills weren't quite up to speed - see post above re: mushrooms....

Too much (flag)pole dancing last night, William

:D

And hitting the Astro Cafe (dirty green squat-rave tent ;) ) until about 5 am.

They had not one but two rigs confiscated by security, but after the first bust they just blagged another system in true don't give a shit at Glasto style and carried on for another seven hours!! before being revisited :(

Did I mention just how good having a she/pee is? :D

I'm sure it was great for you!!!! :p

I got back to my house in the bus with 8 people very very tired but fucking happy, about an hour ago.

Met Dr Jazzz (gave him lift), top bloke!

I camped where my lot always camp, on hill near farmhouse, so no flood disasters, apart from a couple of leaky tents. One person I know even managed to beat the security and get in without paying.

All in all, a good Glasto, mud notwithstanding.

Giles..

Best bit for me was going to see weapons of sound in the dance tent on sunday avo. It was announced just beforehand that brendon burns was going to "go through with his mushroom promise and will be here soon". Then, during weapons of sound, guys started walking around with what must have been literally many, many kilos of free mushrooms in boxes, handing them out to any one who wanted any in whatever quantities they wanted. Pretty soon loads of people were munching them.

Then, when he came on after weapons of sound, he admitted he's just necked a massive load of shrooms as well, just like the rest of the audience had. Last thing i heard him say as i wandered off to catch the end of brian wilson was "oh fuck, i'm coming up on them right now, you're going to have to help me through this one guys..."

kinda wish i'd stayed to watch the carnage.

it was a pleasure :)

seeing bees come back an hour later looking totally mashed and with a huge grin on his face was fantastic :)

it was my best glasto ever.

I thought it was wicked.

Didn't get wet - which was a bonus.

Saw quite a few bands this year too - reckon Brian Wilson was best. Kaiser Chiefs, GLC and Basement Jaxx were pretty good too.

Other stage was a bit fucked with the mud lake but the sounds always a bit shit there anyway - couldn't get to the New bands cos of the mud but the Green fields remained so and were very chilled once again.

Am now sun burnt and chilling back into work :D

I don't like being home :(

*sulks*

*sulks again at firky forgetting he met her*

I'll definately write a report this year, that'll give me something o do at work tomorrow ;) :D

You should have been around the cider bus on Wednesday night - Lisarocket was madly waving her 'Any Urbanites here' sign around making us impossible to miss! :D
Maybe I was a little more pissed than I thought

Still, I met some very nice people who were curious as to exactly what 'urban75' was. Is all good :)

I didnt meet anyone either , only arrived friday so missed everyone.I think it was a bit of a poor show by Lisarocket not to stick around for the late comers , how selfish is that ? :D I had this mad idea that I would be able to spot Urbanish types by sight . Wandered through Dragonfields a couple of times too , Cider bus 8 o/c Friday June the ** 2007 anyone ?
