Glastonbury 2005

Me too

Couldnt find my wellies thismorning, I left it to the very last minute to pack  had to rush out the house and come into work....

You can always pick up an over priced pair from Glasto if you get desperate!

Still excited though :D

Does anyone have any idea about how I could get to the festival site on Sunday morning? I've only ever previously got lifts before but I have a ticket and it seems fucking stupid not to at least partly use it...

michael eavis is on the radio at the moment and he says the rain is easing off.

pyramid and other stage are held back by a couple of hours, but everything else is going to plan.

It was the beer tent struck according to the bbc. God is a teetotaller after all the boring old diety!

12 o clock news reports it's started raining agin and it is 'absolute bedlam'.

I'm off to the beach. Not a cloud in the Sussex sky ........... :p

'The chances of getting a heavy downpour are quite small', said a Met Office spokesman yesterday.

Yeah, rrrright.

Last night was the meanest, loudest, heaviest and longest thunderstorm I can ever recall.

From about 4am to 11am,the rain thudered, nay, cascaded down on my beleaguered tent.

Almighty claps of thunder guaranteed that sleep was all but a distant hope as the heavenly pyrotechnics did their worst.

When I finally emerged from my tent, the whole field was covered in a 5cm layer of water, rapidly turning into the trademark Glasto sludge.

The rain's finally stopped, but the paths are already turning into ankle deep rivers of mud. I suspect it's going to get worse.

Will it spoil my enjoyment of the weekend? Will it fuck. Let's party!

BBC LDN just said that people are leaving the site as the tents are waterlogged. Poor sods. I feel sorry for them, they have waited all year for this and now this has happened.

heheh... the thunderstorm here in bristol this morning was lovely, well-needed, really deep, rolling thunderclaps... most refreshing (though i doubt that's how the happy campers will see it ;) )

*remembers*

oh shit, jtg's got my tent

Damn that's wet - some good pics on here:

One of my flatmates works the hammock stall and they are apparently pailing out water as I type. :(

The other flatmate is stuck waiting to get it. They've had to shut some of the gates due to the weather

[feels slightly smug at decision not to go this year] ;)

Editor has got the right idea about the rain, hasnt he: "Will it spoil my enjoyment of the weekend? Will it fuck. Let's party!" :D

I have just seen the ideal equipment for Glastonbury festival. A flush toilet designed to work under 1000feet of water. ;-)

<glances at thread out of mild interest as he wished he was there>

Fuck, poor them. :( Not sure I would have coped that well with another muddy one.

Hey, if the urban crew is in the normal spot, it'll not effect them so much, on a decent slope, unless, of course, it was so much rain they all got washed down it!

I'm so fucken envious! ( <<< red with envy ) Cept for the rain.....I would love to go to Glastonbury :( ...

But the rain does remind me of a 3 day concert I went to years ago, me and a mate went early to set up this big tent 'cause I owned the Utility truck, anyway it pissed down and we got this big roll of sheeting out of the Ute. and a staple gun and just stapled this shelter up to tree's...it worked great! ... so good in fact we had about a dozen poeple sleeping in it and half we didn't even now...a couple of girls from Denmark and couple from somewhere else etc ....but everyone kept dry till the morning :)

this happens every time it rains though - perhaps not so deep, but why would anyone camp on that main field? one lick of rain and you're knee deep in water.

probably a little to late to be giving advice, but if you ever go to glastonbury, camp on a hill...

I'm sorry to hear that, but if you have hundreds of thousands of people in one place, statistically it's likely that some of their number will die just because their time is up, wherever they happened to be at the time.

Fantastic - really good. The rain allowed me to get a lie in because it wasn't burning hot and the urbanite camp at the usual place is on a hill so was fine rainwise. But anyone at the bottom of the valley was in deep trouble - not just the bottom of Pennards hill but huge bits round the Other Stage and John Peel (ex new bands) tent had been flattened. The tide marks on some of the tents were six foot high or so. Fine for those who could afford new kit but a nightmare for anyone who couldn't.

The rain stopped by lunch on Friday so it actually didn't really effect us apart from making it very muddy. The evenings were

My awards:

Most pogoing action: Ska Cubano (errr Cuban Ska)

Best effort by lead singer to climb scaffolding and get marooned on pieces of the building and have to be rescued with a ladder: Think (Funk)

Gig with most people shouting 'testify brother': Alabama 3

Soothing blues: Taj Mahal (legendary bluesman)

Musical genre hopping:Zap Mama - American African fusion according to the guy who introduced them. An effortless slide between rap/soul/cuban/congolese and many others..

Best dancers: Femi Kuti's three ladies wiggling for an hour solid, with Femi doing an impression of somebody with the shakes as back up.

Possibly illegal child labour: Femi Kuti's four foot high son playing the sax

Most overrated: The Killers - really couldn't understand the fuss, when the White Stripes (who immediately followed) were fantastic.

Best moment: I caught a hat thrown into the crowd by Ska Cubano at the end of their gig.... the first time I've ever done that!

Least effort by a performer: Van Morrison who appeared to have gone to sleep during his songs. :(

Longest encore: Brian Wilson - with five songs!!!

Surprising hit: Hayseed Dixie -country version of AC/DC

Best salesman: Guy selling dolmades with the phrase 'only 25p because they have no drugs in them'

I hardly saw the other urbanites but a million thanks to Bees & Aqua for sorting the amazing campsite again.... THANKS! :)

That was fucking ace :D

Sorry William, but it's so much better when it's muddy :D

So many highlights, the main one being a certain urbanite getting back onto site even though he had a 10 mile exclusion order.... :)

(Lots) more later, I'm going back to bed now....

that was fun :D apparantly 4 1/2 inches of rain fell in 4 hours (the entire month of june normal amount)

thunder was  too :)

now, I'm sure my teeth aren't supposed to feel like this, back to getting clean I go :D
