Glastonbury 2005

well i don't go for the line-ups, but i have to say it's looking fucking good this year despite all the nay sayers:

White Stripes
Van Morrison
Hayseed Dixie
Martha Wainwright
Steve Earle
The Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain
The Broken Family Band
Wiley Crazy Titch J2K + Cameo
Skinnyman & DJ flip
Dreadzone (live)
Mad Professor Dub Show (live)
Dreadzone Sound System
DJ Luke Vibert
DJ Surgeon
The Bug + MCs
cassetteboy + dj rubbish
Pitman
Four Tet
Nouvelle Vague
Roots Manuva
Alabama 3
Go Team
The Earlies
Mia
Dresden Dolls
Art Brut
Iration Steppas
Smith and Mighty / More Rockers
dub dadda

I mean, that's a fucking line-up for me.

course, there's also Tarantism. but i reckon if i work fast, i could probably take most of them out with a pointy stick before the security catch on.

Interesting that The Undertones are playing, but not at the John Peel Stage. Not sure whether I think that's a good or a bad thing, but it's certainly interesting (once again my insight and comments are indispensable  ).

Will also be intersting to see if they play it*, it might be similar to Radiohead and Creep.

*you know what song I mean :p

aaaaarrrrgggghhhh, best line up in years, and i don't ahve a ticket yet....

*i will go to the ball, i will go to the ball*

I thought the line-up looked a bit average to be honest - a lot better than last year mind you, and there's just about enough there to keep me happy for a weekend.

How is PROD going to work at Glasto? Is it the usual deal of everybody remembering to bring their fave CD's along?

a mixture of that and the official premier (after extensive trials in a secret Italian location) of the shoebox jukebox ;)

I'd be up for a fair proportion of those ... in a love and peace style, outrageously hippy (yet anti-crap hippy) show of consensus, I even agree (completely) that Tarantism are shit ... :D

I don't think I'm going to move far from Avalon this year

But there again Chas n Dave could be the new Rolf :D

But I'll probably miss most of 'em anyway ... organisation? or another cider/spliff?

Fatally easy decision :p

* looks forward to another Thursday night mobile marathon & visit to the medical centre * :D

I'm glad you do cos it's confusing the hell out of me  ;)

confusing you? i'm sat here with a list of all the songs we've played at PROD and a spreadsheet trying to work out if the Violent Femmes are country, indie or punk.

;)

One or two interesting names there :)

But the FULL line up (ie including for Hippy Jim's Shroom Tent, etc. :D ) isn't yet out ....
Oo I like the sound of Hippy Jim's Shroom Tent :D

am i the only person in the world that thinks that this year's glastonbury line up is fucking appalling? there's hardly anything i want to see there and just reading the programming for some of the stages makes me want to slip into a coma. i know WoW and others will, quite rightly, say that glastonbury is so much more than seeing bands, etc, etc, but for those of us who've been going to the festival for the last 13 years to see live music, this has to represent a new low.

kudos to prod. along with the roots line up, you're the most exciting attraction at glastonbury this year.

aw, that's a bit harsh ian. i'll grant you it's low on sensational acts - no kind of Flaming Lips style 'event' appearances, at least not for me - but there's quite a lot there i'm really looking forward to..

and anyway, too many good bands gets in the way of me rolling around in my own filth :)

edited to add: but thanks for the compliment. my old flatmate Alex is running the Roots tent too, so i might get a slot on there. so does that mean i run tings? ;)

I'd be kind of wary of buying something on Ebay which doesn't exist yet. Lots of people were conned into sending payment and never received tickets last year.
naah, i wouldn't do it anyway. but my point was simply that, with just a teenie bit of effort, it would be a piece of piss to flog a ticket and create an id anyway.

there's no act i've wanted to see for ages playing this time, but then i'm an old fart and have seen the large majority of acts that i've wanted to see for ages, iyswim. and four tet make up for the lack of modest mouse.

no, it's not. in fact, i was too kind before. i was open mouthed in disbelief at how utterly shit the line was when i read it. too much haircut indie, the second stage is now mor schmindie shite, the white stripes just don't work as a festival headline act - they were dreadful at reading - there's nothing - not one single thing - that makes me go 'wow, i can't believe they're playing, i can't wait to see them...'

nothing

not one thing.

have i just seen all the bands i want to see? say it ain't so.

i reckon the alabamas might be the surprise sleeper hit. thinking about it, i'd like to see them. but, you know, fantastic as they are, it's not like i haven't seem them a million times already. same goes for the other good stuff on the bill.

but, in a bid to be positive/constructive, i'll try and think of a list of people that should have been booked. then you can tell me how shit my line up would have been.

;)

if it includes patti smith & television i'd be won over

(oh, tho i thought the white stripes were great at leeds)

maybe it's the same story for me too. i do love 'rounds' and four tet would have been one of my must-sees, but one time i saw keiron before - in his fridge incarnation - he was pretty dull live.

well yeh, if we're going to do that.. i'd be booking the Flaming Lips and Al Green and Nick Cave and The Legendary Shack Shakers and The Weakerthans and the Butthole Surfers and Dinosaur jr and The Skatalites and and and and ;)

i do honestly think it's much better than last year. but last year i'm sure i didn't watch one single act on the 2nd stage, and that's normal for me.. I tend to flit from the odd act on the main stage and then it's Jazz World, Dance and the Green Field stages for me..

only time i (sorta) saw them was in paris with clinic. the clinic singer was too ill to attend (we eventually worked out, they did announce it, but in some funny language), and four tet turned out to be doing a dj set!

only band we got to see 'properly' was some non-entities re-hashing old 80's records. franks funkyland or something...

this year's glastonbury should have included...

ac/dc - the time is right for proper legends of this stature
dolly parton - same again
jens lekman - brilliant indie pop showman
teenage fanclub - just because i like them and have fond memories of them booting footballs into the crowd at glastonbury one year
al green - new album, he's on tour, very possible
cher - she's touring too, would have much much more entertaining than kylie
gang of four - maybe they are playing and i missed them
meat loaf - also touring now
le tigre
psychic tv - i'm seeing them at primavera, so it's possible
arcade fire
anthony and the johnsons
sons and daughters
dinosaur jr
manu chao again
sufjan stevens
joanna newsome

aside from the ones i'd already mentioned, i agree with psychic tv and arcade fire and can't believe i forgot Newsome. Dolly would have been cool too. AC/DC - well Eavis has always been fairly anti-rock (in that sense). and Dolly would have been a treat - or indeed Loretta Lynn. or what about Nancy, who's about as well

as for Cher and Meat Loaf? argh :(

oops, and patti smith and television...!
;)

and bitch magnet/superchunk/killdozer reformations...!

i'm not booking these bands/acts entirely on musical merit. no matter what you think of cher and meat loaf, you have to admit that they would be out of the norm for glastonbury, something that would make you stop and think...even if it's just to think 'oh god no'. and they would be events for some.

whereas so much of this line up makes me think 'hmm, time for bed...'
