Fascists, Fascism and the Invasion.

Yes, that is a totenkopf on his combat jacket, yes he is wearing a Sonic Youth shirt, and yes Gogol Bordello are er... Very not notably fascist afaik? It's still on their facebook page, just can't work out how to link it. I'm confused. <looks for rock to hide under>

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there’s a Ukrainian anti-fascist football firm that are fighting the invasion:

Author of this book, can't remember if it's come up on here already:

Any idea what NSK means in this context? I find myself wondering if it could be a Laibach thing?

I would think probably best to avoid that kind of humour in this particular context?

There is a strain of Ukrainian humour that plays up to the Russians describing them all as nazis, one example is naming some of their improvised armoured vehicles (what military types call ‘technicals’) as ‘Banderamobiles’, a term I believe the Russians coined but now widely used by Ukrainians as a sort of self-effacing pisstake.

In the same ironically piss-taking way they built a huge Bandera Monument in the middle of לעמבערג

Ukraine’s outspoken ambassador to Germany, a talkshow staple who was central to the public debates that led Berlin to step up weapons deliveries to Kyiv, is facing criticism for defending World War Two Ukrainian nationalist leader Stepan Bandera in an interview.

Reuters reports:

Andriy Melnyk is easily the best known ambassador in Berlin, known for robust social media exchanges in which he condemned as appeasers politicians and intellectuals who opposed arming Ukraine for its fight against Russian invaders.

But an interview with journalist blogger Tilo Jung published on Thursday in which he said Bandera was not a “mass murderer of Poles and Jews” caused uproar and drew condemnation from both the Polish government and the Israeli embassy.

“The statement made by the Ukrainian ambassador is a distortion of the historical facts, belittles the Holocaust and is an insult to those who are murdered by Bandera and his people,” the embassy wrote on Twitter.

Though he spent much of World War Two in a Nazi prison, Bandera headed the radical wing of the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists which killed tens of thousands of Polish civilians during the war.

Living in Munich in exile after the war, he was a figurehead of Ukraine’s anti-Soviet insurgency which fought Moscow in partisan actions into the 1950s. He was assassinated by the Soviet KGB in 1959.

Even Ukraine’s foreign ministry distanced itself from Melnyk’s remarks, saying they did not reflect its views. Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau thanked his Ukrainian counterpart for his intervention over the “false statements.”

Melnyk, 46, has become a central figure in debates over Germany’s obligations to Ukraine, credited with using his pulpit as envoy of a nation fighting foreign invasion to keep up the pressure on Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who despite initial reluctance has kept boosting arms deliveries to Ukraine.

The stamp is from 2009. Wake the fuk up though.
Makes no difference when you consider the comments of Ukraine's present ambassador to Germany, quoted in the post above 39th's.

Iirc the man's political allies were in power in 2009 also.

Ukrainian ambassador said some dodgy shit, therefore Putin the oligarch cunt is perfectly justified in having his brutalised conscripts and pet fascists rape and murder Ukrainian civilians. This makes sense in RD2003's world.

Is that what I said?

Oligarchs, by the way, have also run Ukraine since 1991. The current government is every bit as much in their pockets as their predeccessors.

Really don't get what point you're trying to laboriously trying to make (again) with this post from a shit dodgy politics Twitter account that has less followers than my cat would have if they were on Twitter. Oh, and it turns out the stamps are from 3 years ago.

It really seems like you and sometimes RD2003 are shouting repeatedly about fascists/far right in the Ukrainian government, but for what end are you doing this, and what political difference does it actually make practically? It does sometimes seem like you skating quite close to the likes of Galloway etc. with this and the way you hark on about something that is largely unimportant to the vast bulk of what's going on there.

Answering for myself, I think it would be a good idea for the Ukrainian government, if they don't want the Russians accusing them of being Nazis or fascists, not to play right into their hands by bigging up, or defending the legacy of...fascists.

Well, governments struggle to maintain lines on all sorts of things, as they're a mix of people with some agreement but often different positions on other stuff. But I don't see what actual point or difference it makes to the situation at hand, unless all this pointing the same thing out repeatedly is a way of expressing some element of sympathy with the Russian State's 'anti-Nazification' bollocks which is often how it comes across, hence it winding some people up.

I think you must realise that nothing we say on here makes any difference at all to the situation at hand. As Pickman's is always saying, these boards are all about every winding everybody else up whether intentionally or otherwise.

For my part, I'm not trying to wind you up, as my experience with (Soviet raised) Ukrainians here who favour the turn towards NATO/EU etc, tells me such people are more than willing to turn a blind eye to the ideologies (and actions) of Bandera and Azov etc, and I presume this is the case within Ukraine. It may not have been the case before they were wound up to take a suicidal confrontational stance towards Russia.

Racist tosh about simple Ukrainians being led astray.

You keep saying this, yet nobody here is under the illusion that we're directing the war in any remotely meaningful sense. You seem to know that too. So I think you repeat this or phrases like it in an attempt to distance yourself from the implications of your posts. You say something shit (or quote someone saying something shit with your apparent endorsement), others pick you up on it, and then you try to spin away from that with this kind of insincere self-effacing nonsense.

Most of us have been here for literal years already, we don't need condescending reminders that this forum is purely a talking shop.
