F1 2018

10% chance of rain tomorrow says the forecast, but that was the same for today and we had some spitting.
It seems the teams don't agree with the forecast and think there could be some rain, I guess we will have to wait and see.

Grosjean is fucked.

I love the look of the track, we visited it* a couple of years ago as the grandfather of Mlle. Fire built Paul Ricard Circuit in some capacity. Not sure if that means he had a shovel or made people with shovels do things but there you go.

*got as far as the car park and went into the souvenir shop.

Well it seems that thousands of fans have been unable to get the track because of the amount of traffic, fans have been complaining over social media on both Friday and Saturday that they were stuck miles from the circuit and missed the show they had paid for (it has finally been picked-up by the press) :hmm: Didn't they know over a year ago that there was going to be a race there

I was wondering about that, the road that leads there isn't big, only 2 lanes, 1 in each direction. It's really out in the sticks.

It never ceases to amaze me how no-one appears to plan for big events, unless they are put on by some area of government, who then close everything down and fuck it all up for people not attending their event. This race at this venue has been known about for well over a year. It seems that someone woke up when the F1 trucks arrived at the start of the week and wondered if they should do something about access, but having government involved, they needed two weeks of meetings to decide if they needed to act.

Thing is the Var is mostly quite hilly so they'd have to do something fairly extreme to improve it involving millions of tons of earth and knocking down loads of trees to make the roads bigger. I'd imagine it was deemed to be too much hassle and the spectators would have to lump it. Insert gallic shrug here.

As Hammy said, a 5 second penalty was lenient for screwing up Botty's race. Hardly drive of the day. Bott was pushed into last place and finished 7th. A more deserving DOTD.
