Last race of the season - Abu Dhabi.

Civilised times for the UK, at least:

FP2 - 13:00

Sat 12 Dec
FP3 - 10:00
Qual - 13:00

If we are to believe the Hammy-haterzzz on social media, Hammy's car can probably win the race without a driver. I bet it doesn't even need fuel. Or wheels...

Judging by last weekend they might have to be right on the wheels issue.

Mazepin appears to have seriously blotted his copybook with a video of him sexually assaulting a woman. I've not looked too hard for the video as it's not something I would dissemble anyway.

But Haas are dealing with it "internally"...

People understandably not happy with him.
This was posted in the thread to that tweet, apparently real and posted under an Instagram story from Russell.

Regardless of any truth to Mazepin's 'secret', feel comfortable in considering him a Grade A cunt at this point.

I’ve just followed that through. It seems the woman is a friend of his, has no problem with it, and she posted the video. But he has form for this sort of thing, so I can’t help but wonder how innocent he is, if at all.

Yeah, I'll go with your assessment.

Dess, I'd be a little sus about her saying she's got no problem with it. His dad will be able to put pressure on her that we would not be aware of.

Oligarchs gonna oligarch.

I've worked for an oligarch and he was basically OK (as in not a horrible cunt to everyone he met) but the son (and daughter) were horrible, horrible cunts. He indulged that behaviour. They could do no wrong.

I've seen the video, it's in a few places on Reddit if you actually want to. It does seem like larking about but there is definitely something awkward about the woman's reaction. It's also just the latest in odd/bizarre/entitled behaviour from this chap. Money gets you a drive though and Haas need every penny so I won't be at all surprised if this goes nowhere. Whether he'll survive a season without getting banned or hounded out is a different question.

I'd be surprised if she hasn't been "persuaded" that everything was innocent. But without any other evidence, from the car driver for example, we must assume she is being truthful.

I know nothing about Marzipan apart from remarks in this thread and his on-track behaviour this season.

Graduating to F1 is a coming of age. It's grown-up racing. Sponsors shy away from controversy. Bad behaviour reflects badly on the team. Team members are regular people and know a cunt when they see and work with one. Competitors are a grade better than those he's tackled with so far.

His daddy might have enough money to buy a seat, but that doesn't mean he'll be any good. The first sign of any Schumacher-shoving is likely to see him severely bollocked. The world has moved on since James Hunt had a dolly-bird in each arm and Schumey collided with anyone likely to beat him to a title. Dare I say it, it's a lot more professional, and Marzipan isn't in that league yet in driving or social skills.

If Marzipan listens to the managers and PR people advising him, he might mature into a decent driver and human being. The evidence so far isn't promising.

Mercedes special livery for Abu Dhabi
Mercedes will use a special livery during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The team known as the Silver Arrows already had alternative livery this year, but Toto Wolff announces another change. At the beginning of 2020, the colour of the Mercedes will be changed from silver to black. In this way, Mercedes is trying to help in the fight against discrimination and inequality and is also supporting star driver Lewis Hamilton, who is committed to these issues. In Abu Dhabi, however, there will be a small change to the livery. ''We have a very special surprise for our team members in Abu Dhabi this weekend. Saturday and Sunday we will be driving in a slightly different colour scheme with everyone's name on the car to honour the enormous commitment and determination of everyone in Brixworth and Brackley. Everyone has worked hard this year to raise the bar in this enormously intense season and we hope that this gesture will really show the appreciation we have for everyone involved," Wolff says in Mercedes statement. Mercedes team boss is now also looking forward to the last race of the season. "Abu Dhabi is always a nice race weekend with a year-end feeling and an interesting circuit for the engineers to tackle. The atmosphere will be slightly different this year with the COVID-19 control measures, but we are as motivated as ever to end the season with a strong result and enter the winter break in the right way," concludes the Austrian.

Toto summoned Bottas for talks after Bahrain race
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff was not happy with Valtteri Bottas' performance at the Sakhir Grand Prix and wanted to talk with the Finns' team after he was out-shined by rookie team-mate George Russell. Lewis Hamilton missed the race due to contracting coronavirus, Bottas was expected to lead from the front. The 31-year-old started on pole position but was overtaken on the opening lap by Russell. Bottas was unable to chase down Hamilton's substitute and looked on course for a second-placed finish.

That was until Mercedes messed up a double-stacked pit stop and both drivers slipped down the field. Bottas ended up finishing the race in eighth place, one position ahead of Russell. However, it was the younger F1 star who performed more overtakes and should have won the race. Wolff admitted it was a difficult day at the office for Bottas and he wanted to talk to his No 2 driver. “I need to talk with [Valtteri] and his crew but yeah, he did not shine today,” Wolff told Sky Germany. Mercedes are waiting to decide if Russell will get another chance to drive for their team this weekend at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Hamilton's quarantine ends today but he must first return a negative COVID-19 test before he can link up with his team. Bottas could be the senior driver for the second week in a row and that is something he is not used to. "It was a different feeling, I've never been in a team being the older guy," Bottas said. "But in the end as a driver, you just want to do the best job in any case for the race weekend, and it doesn't matter who is you team-mate, you always want to beat him. Friday I think was not great for me, due to different reasons, broken floor in practice one, bit of a crack in the floor in practice two, so not really ideal."

Bottas also explained how he did not have to give his new ally too much advice. "Set-up wise, we raced here last week," he added. "There was a lot we learned, so there were minimal things we had to change. "I think George also pretty much started with Lewis's set-up for the weekend, so there were not massive things to do. He's got his engineers, so for sure they know what to do with the car. I didn't feel like there was a massive responsibility, because if there was anything I could change and give directions, I was trying to do that. It was pretty straightforward."

Yes, I think most people were well impressed with Russell's driving, his pace and adventure, last week.

They say the measure of a driver is how well he does against his team-mate.

Russell made Botty look like the junior driver. I'd love to see him get another chance.

Louis Camilleri Ferrari CEO leaving immediately
Ferrari brought out surprising news on Thursday evening. CEO, Louis Camilleri will leave the Italian race stable immediately. Camilleri was the CEO of Ferrari since 2018 and is stopping for personal reasons. It is yet another change at the top of Ferrari, which has already seen several CEOs, chairmen and team bosses pass by in the past year. Camilleri, as Sergio Marchionne's successor, was not long in Ferrari's reign either, but after two years he has already left the Italians. However, Louis is not stopping because he has been dismissed, but for personal reasons*.

"Ferrari has been an important part of my life and it was a great honour for me to take on the role of CEO. I am proud of the performance of the team since 2018 and know that the best years of Ferrari are yet to come,'' Louis said in the statement. According to Ferrari, Camilleri has also been struggling with the coronavirus in recent weeks. The CEO was hospitalised but was not in a life-threatening situation. However, that whole situation may have caused him to resign now. The CEO, John Elkann, will take over from Camilleri until a suitable successor is found. Camilleri's decision to step down came after he suffered health problems, which made it necessary to hospitalize him for COVID-19 in recent weeks, a company source said. He is recovering at home but his illness was not the cause of his decision to retire.

[*I'm not sure this is the whole truth, I think there is more to this story than "he is sick", I guess we willjust have to wait and see]

Sergio Perez and Kevin Magnussen get grid penalties

Sergio Perez and Kevin Magnussen are both set for grid drops at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix due to some pesky engine penalties. With the 17th and final race weekend now underway, many drivers are on the limit when it comes to their engine components available in their respective pools before penalties have to be applied. As FP1 began at the Yas Marina circuit, the FIA confirmed that power unit elements had been changed on the cars of Perez and Magnussen. Perez, who clinched his maiden Formula 1 win with victory at the Sakhir Grand Prix last weekend, has had a new ICE fitted, as well as a new turbocharger and MGU-K element. That takes him to a season total of four for all three of these particular engine components and, as a result, is required to start from the back of the grid. The same penalty applies for Magnussen, who is now onto his third Control Electronics and Energy Store.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix could be a farewell race for both drivers. Neither Magnussen nor Romain Grosjean were retained for the 2021 season by Haas and Perez is still waiting for Red Bull to make a decision on their 2021 line-up and whether that will include Alex Albon. Prior to the race weekend, Magnussen said he was “at peace” with moving away from Formula 1. “I’m pretty at peace with it. I know in motorsport you should never say never,” Magnussen told reporters. “In Formula 1 lots of things can happen and you never say never but I’m ready to call this my last race. I’m going to go out and enjoy it and drive this amazing car that is so satisfying to drive and just look back on this amazing opportunity that I’ve been given. Growing up as a kid and dreaming of Formula 1 and wanting to reach Formula 1, to get there and make a career out of it is something I’m really lucky and privileged to have done.”

I’m going to watch FP2 because I fell asleep, it had been a long day. Then qualifying. The great thing about my F1 package is that I can pretty much get anything that has been broadcast in the last 7 days on demand. Plus there’s the option of recording live broadcast. Of course I’ll lose this if/when we move from Spain.

Mercedes last race livery
Mercedes have added the names of everyone who helped produce their championship-winning W11 to the car’s livery for the final race of the 2020 F1 season. The revised livery appeared for the first time at the final practice session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. “We’ll be running a slightly different livery on Saturday and Sunday featuring everyone’s name on the car to honour the huge commitment and determination from everybody in Brixworth and Brackley,” team principal Toto Wolff explained. “Everyone has pushed hard this year, raising the bar through this massively intense season, and we hope this gesture goes some way in showing the appreciation we have for everyone involved.”

Mercedes confirmed around 2,000 people are credited on the two W11s. The team has enjoyed a highly successful 2020 campaign. As well as winning the constructors championship for a record-breaking seventh year in a row, Lewis Hamilton continued his run of drivers’ championship titles. From the 16 races so far they have taken 15 pole positions and 13 wins.

Morning race fans
Last qualifying of the season :( Only thing to play for is 3rd in the constructors championship. Interesting to hear reports that Mercedes were trying to buyout Russell's contract with Williams for next season, no idea if it is true or not but must make Bottas think, I'd guess there could be some truth to it.
