Toronto or Montreal?
LOL Ferrari are rightly rather embarrassed about it, for those who don't know; Ferrari, was ridiculed online Tuesday after it tweeted about this weekend’s upcoming Formula One race in Montreal using an image of downtown Toronto. The Tweet has now been deleted. It was a video with the words “Montreal, Canada” showing the CN Tower, Lake Ontario and a image of down-town Toronto

The predictable result was loads of Tweets showing the Mercedes car under the Ferrari logo. How a company as big as Ferrari can let something like this slip through the net is beyond me, it appears their marketing department is run by the same people who decide their race strategy

Danny Ric news
Poor old Danny, he really is stick in an awkward place. He can't sign up with Red Bull until they decide which power-unit they will use next season (unless he already knows if Aston Martin will join the circus, even then, can he wait and will they be competitive, history shows it takes at least 3 or 4 years for a new engine supplier to catch up).

Word is that he has said he will not sign anything until he knows what Lewis is doing, but word is that Lewis has signed and the team is just waiting for the British Grand Prix to make the announcement. Niki Lauda and Helmut Marko were both at Red Bull Ring yesterday to witness the first run in an F1 car of MotoGP star Marc Marquez. During the post-test press conference the two men engaged in an interesting exchange. Niki said "Lewis is staying with us", Marko's responce was "Ricciardo doesn't want to sign until Hamilton has signed, it's a bit strange. Hopefully it ends soon". Lauda insisted "We have not made [Ricciardo] an offer, so he can wait forever".

While we are on the subject of Ricciardo, he is going to get some form of grid penalty this weekend as he will have to change some engine parts following the problems he had in Monaco. For sure he will need to change his MGU-K as that was burnt to a crisp. Adrian Newey is reported as saying "considering it [the MGU-K] caught fire and was a burnt out, charred wreck, I don't believe it is salvageable”. Drivers are allowed three power units per season but only two MGU-Ks, two energy stores and two control units without incurring a 10 place penalty for the subsequent race. It isn't yet known if the MGU-K problems have had an effect on the Batteries.

Canadian GP drivers press conference
WOW Max Verstappen threatened to "headbutt someone" following further questions about his dismal F1 campaign.

Power-unit upgrades

No upgrade for Mercedes, Toto had said that an upgraded power-unit would be available to all Mercedes teams this weekend in Canada but now it seems that a "quality issue" has pushed back the new unit. There is no word on when the upgrade will now be issued.

Renault will be bringing an upgrade for all their teams, it is thought that this new unit will bring a 20bhp increase to the Renault powered cars, which is worth around 1 tenth of a second a lap. While this doesn't sound that much, one 10th is considered a "notable step forward".

Ferrari will be bringing an upgrade for Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen remains a question mark after he suffered an engine failure in Friday practice in Spain that put him out of sync with Ferrari's planned cycle of power units. Both customer teams Haas and Sauber ran the updated Ferrari power unit for the first time in Monaco.

Honda the Japanese manufacturer is looking to bring a significant performance update to its engine this weekend and it comes at an important moment as negotiations with Red Bull over a 2019 engine deal intensify. It will be worth keeping an eye on the Toro Rosso's through the speed trap this weekend to see if the "power" upgrade is working.

Daniel Ricciardo penalty

Conflicting stories from the team on this subject. Helmut Marko said the unit would not have to be replaced, but Adrian Newey disagreed, arguing the damage had been extensive and a change would cost Ricciardo penalties. When Danny Ric was asked in Canada his response was "Not yet. Unless something happens in practice. But for today the answer is no".

This all seems a little confusing as a couple of days ago Newey claimed "considering it [the MGU-K] caught fire and was a burnt out, charred wreck, I don't believe it is salvageable”. Maybe they are thinking of patching it up for this race and changing it in France in 2 weeks, I'm not really sure what advantage they will gain from doing that, it seems very risky. How do you patch up a "charred wreck"?

Interesting rumor around Red Bull engine chose
Red Bull are looking to make a decision about their power-unit by the time of the Austrian Grand Prix. It seems that they will be taking a close look at the data produced by both Renault and Honda at this weekends GP. If rumors are to be believed it seems they will be looking for a two year contract with the engine supplier, which will take them to 2021 and the new Concorde agreement. The interesting thing is what will they do after 2021? I think many people throught they would be switching to Aston Martin post 2021, but word in the paddock is that they will be supplied by Porsche. If that is the case then it would seem that Aston Martin is not planning to join F1.

Monza latest circuit to want a reduction in hosting fee

The promoters of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza are seeking a drastic reduction in their race fee. The track signed a three-year deal in 2016 which will keep it on the calendar until the 2019 F1 season. A reduction in fee is a key part of their demand for a new race contract. The promoters will pay $24 million for next year’s race, up from $20 million at the beginning of the contract. They are targeting a cut to $15 million from 2020.

Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club d’Italia, has told reporters “I hope to write a new contract for ’20, ’21, ’22, ’23 and ’24. The [current] agreement is in general too..... we want to have more convenience, not just lower the fee but more rights, more hospitality, more percentile of the sponsorship that now [we don’t] have”.

Have a Sky Go pass on laptop so going for that rather than faffing with a stream sent to the big telly :hmm:

Just watched the last half of the Formula E and really (suprise to me) enjoyed it. Good to see Alan McNish too

Canada is one of my favourite tracks so looking forward to this, especially with the front of the grid set up like it is

Verstappen out before lap 10

I've just seen Nico Who? sucking the life out of the TV screen.
Nico fuck off already
*shakes fist at Sky*
:mad::mad:
He was all over the press in the last day or two claiming that the negative press he got in his last season effected his engineers as they believed what they read in the press and it demotivated them, so not only was he fighting his team mate Lewis, but also the press and his own engineers and team.

He has zero charisma and adds nothing to the TV coverage of F1 in my view

I have Sky Go but can't make it work my laptop. I keep getting error messages. I have to watch it on TV and run the risk that family members might want to speak to me.

:p
