England fans: the racism and the violence

New Statesman article indicating that 70% plus of the racist posting on social media is from outside of the UK. Yet more evidence that this is a global problem, and that racists on football social media are racists in the real world too..

“Brighton striker Neal Maupay received digital death threats after scoring against Arsenal in June 2020. The person who sent them was given a nine-month probation order this month. The 19-year-old perpetrator wasn’t from Sunderland or Somerset, but Singapore. “It is, from a perpetrator perspective,” says Bhandari, “a global pandemic.”

Was the very loud booing in the stadium being phoned in from abroad too?

Have we spoken about the number of abusive SM messages recieved by Sara, Rashford, Sancho and Sterling?

Now obviously even 1 would be too many and all that, and I'm certainly not attempting to diminish the hurt and upset that these must cause, but I'm quite surprised that the tally of "potentially abusive" tweets was as little as just under 2k. Maybe I'm way off beam here, but that sounds like a relatively limited amount given the number of followers/traffic involved in the Euro Final story?

England stars Jadon Sancho, Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling were sent nearly 2,000 “potentially abusive” tweets.

The article suggests that 30% of the posts came from within the UK. As it also makes clear the defacing of the Rashford mural wasn’t from overseas.

It’s almost like it’s saying it’s a problem across the board……

That total doesn't include Instagram which is often the preferred delivery for racist insults as well as Facebook who declined to give numbers, unsurprisingly.

Great pity that instead of examples how to actually fight racism , win supporters over and keep the pressure on the racists that the discussion is not about activity but about who is the most ‘concerned ‘ and who can demonstrate the size of their concern by posting up as many newspaper articles they can.

I do not know if this has already been posted, if so sorry. Although the highlighting of the racism is portrayed alongside the general bell end actions from Sunday’s and previous matches.
Will a ban on fans make a difference? Maybe not, it hasn’t in the past.

Go on then, or start a thread, better for all than digs

Me on a thread about racism ‘why don’t we discuss how to do something about it’

ddraig on same thread about racism ‘start another thread please, no place for this on here’
No, I said "Go on then", meaning here, and then added "or start a new one" don't be so disingenuous, that's what I LITERALLY said, it's there in the post you quoted for all to see ffs

Why the fuck have you completely made something up i've not fucking said?? what you trying to prove here ffs?

Again, why don't you just start doing that here instead of the digs?

Ok if that’s what you meant , fine , sorry for getting the wrong end of the stick . Why don’t you suggest what we can do to start off a more constructive discussion?

Thank you! Proper pissed/s me off being misrepresented and misquoted

It may be useful to have a less defensiveness and examples/experiences of challenging it online and irl that have worked? What do you think?

Yes, he's a piece of shit. So remind me why this irrelevant nobody is being brought up here?
I mean, I'm not littlebabyjesus so I don't know who or what they were thinking of. But as far as their claim was concerned, it did seem like they might be thinking of Marsh, who makes his Cardiff support a big part of his public image and has also been deeply involved in street-level racist organising over the past decade or so.

1 person???
e2a hitmouse - Maybe lbj could have come up with that "reason" if they meant it, would have taken less time than dodging it

When the edl came to Cardiff they were not joined by but hammered and chased out by Cardiff City fans including people from the docks who brought others, it was class and put the swappies standing still doing their preaching to the converted to shame. No big racist mobilisations in Cardiff since iirc

Then Cardiff supporters got slagged by supporters of other teams for it

All for it . I’ve just arrived at a bar so might not post for a while .

I'm glad to hear it! But he is one person who's been a fairly important figure on the far-right over the past decade or so, even if the vast majority of stuff he's been involved with didn't happen in Cardiff, and so his name came to mind, the same way Yaxley-Lennon would if the subject was racist Luton fans.

He really doesn't represent Cardiff City fans in any way at all. He's a total irrelevance and his shit politics have got little support in Cardiff.
