England Cricket 2022

We're moving towards miracle territory again.

My money is on it not happening this time. SA bowlers are up for it and we haven't even seen Nortje yet.

The commentators were slagging Elgar off for turning to Maharaj so early. And then he does that. If that was Stokes they'd be hailing his genius.

Just watched the Crawley dismissal. It's every bit as bad as his nicks to slip with booming drives. First over of spin he's seen and he's missed a straight one.

Just fuck off Crawley. You're shit. Even Burns was better, and that's swearing.

I think Burns is also on a central contract so they might as well just bring him back if the reason they're being so loyal to Crawley is that they're paying him 700k. I don't even wanna do the maths on how much each run he's scored this year has cost the ECB. And these are leaving aside their appearance/winning bonuses. According to this table, Bairstow makes 170k, while Crawley makes 700k, hell even Dom Sibley is on 700k.

Central contracts can be made to look rather silly by the end of the year.

Burns, Sibley, Sam Curran, Buttler all on test contracts, all dropped a while ago.
Leach playing every match. Hameed didn't even get an incremental contract despite being in the team at the point those contracts were awarded.

Tom Curran's got a good deal. ;)

I assume that Curran figure is an error

You'd hope that's an error.

It's a convoluted system though, but those are just their basics. 15k per test on top of that, which in footballer terms aint much i guess. They're being reviewed in October I think anyway so lets assume unless Crawley scores 300 in each innings of the next test he won't be collecting one.

It'll be an interesting test of McCullum's policy of loyalty when they do review them. I can barely even remember what Archer looks like and he seems to still be on one.

Let's at least hope the guys who do get one get a pay rise in line with inflation, cost of living n all that

Nortje's finally on and hitting 95mph. Three of their bowlers regularly topping 90mph in this match. Tough series.

When loads of his peers are on 170000 and he’s the only one on 1700000, you gotta feel that somebody just erroneously added a zero on the source page

Worry here is that SA just look way better than England. I'll repeat - I would take every single SA bowler in a combined team on current form.

SA also have dodgy batting, but they were let off the hook, and at least they have something at the top of the order - Elgar is a good gritty opener, Petersen is a huge talent.

But this looks like trouble for England rest of the series as well. SA just look too good.
