England Cricket 2022

Nothing to lose surely - get out to him and it’s no shame, hit some shots off him and it’s a story to bore people in the car with for the next 50 years

I reckon they would be up for it. How many times in their life would a club batter have the chance to face that?
Yeah definitely. I'd be wanting to face him. However, half of those were bowled leg stump comfortably beating the outside edge. Saying that you're up for it, and playing like you're up for it are two different things. (I don't blame them at all for backing away.)

As a genuine No.11 and previously being hit on the head (without a helmet) by a county bowler moonlighting for a village side I can safely say I would not want to face Mr Wood.

Not sure I’d bring on the wrong Overton right now. Topley has been the man and this is England’s last chance.

Yeah poor captaincy to leave Topley with three left in the bag. India were almost certainly going to win anyway, but only almost.

But it was the England batting that failed again.

shame Pant couldn't finish it with 6 fours.

Was he bollocks about to get dropped.

It is becoming clear that many three-format players are taking on too much. Meanwhile, t20Is are set to be expanded massively in the next five years. The ODI format is in trouble, while test cricket is being pushed even more to the sidelines to accommodate the t20 leagues.

We're at a dangerous point in cricket. Short-term greed could ruin things quite quickly.

test cricket > ODI cricket > t20 cricket

could quickly become

t20 cricket > test cricket > ODI cricket

Too late for this now, but I agree with Graeme Swann's suggestion a few years ago that t20 shouldn't be played at international level.

He's not exactly been in staggering form of late. Which yes, is probably due to his workload. I'd personally prefer if he purely focused on test cricket from here on. I wonder he'll be able to resist the IPL though if it comes calling.

yep, and the IPL of course is big factor in this.

Great to see Mark Wood on the mend but I can't say I'd be best pleased if I was a humble club cricketer having to face 95mph missiles.

If it's considered too dangerous for elite test players to face bowling like that when it's slightly gloomy then it shouldn't be allowed for an off-duty accountant weekend cricketer to face it, whatever the light. Looks like he was giving it his all, almost falling over there.

One other thing on the Stokes resignation - it did seem weird to me that he was in the side and not captain. Buttler doesn't strike me a natural leader and I think most people would be intimidated by having Stokes in a huddle while you're giving a mild-mannered little team speech. That was never gonna work.

The oppo have posted this. Includes what looks like 2 sixes over point. And some shit music.

The top level of club cricket is srs bsns, mind you. These are players who will practise hard. It's where Wood started as well. In Aus, it's common for elite players to turn out for their clubs.

Here's the scorecard. He got 5-24

Lanchester CC

tbf they gave all the other bowlers a go first. :D

That is not shit music thank you.

Good to see those lads get even more to bang on about in the pub though, not just facing down one of the quickest bowlers in the world but casually cutting him for six.

Lockie Ferguson currently firing in 90+mph rockets at Ireland and making them look like club cricketers. I mean it must be fun in hindsight. But still. How do you even see it.

England outplayed here, but I'm mostly going to let them off today. They had to bat after fielding in the worst of the heat. Unsurprisingly, SA's top-scorer couldn't take the field.
