England Cricket 2022

Old-fashioned thinking, I know, but there is still a case for putting away the big shots for 15 or 20 overs when you find yourself at 26-5 in an ODI.

Jonathan Liew is on one again…

Baz has said he fucking hates the term 'Bazball'. I would as well. There's actually a method to his madness which is a bit diminished by using that.

I'd love to see how Bazball would cope with the pitch the Aussies lost on yesterday of course in Sri Lanka. No chance.

Sack Mott and replace him with Morgan.

Sack Buttler (both of captaincy and the gloves) and replace him with Moeen.

I don't agree with the first point, let's see what he can do. Very early days I totally agree with the second in terms of relieving him of the captaincy and gloves. He's the best batsman in white ball cricket so just let him do what he's good at.

The white ball team looks like they need a steady hand on the tiller. Maybe Mott will come good but it’s not looking fantastic so far.

How many years of misery will we have to endure before Buttler is given the boot? He’s got Root’s late captaincy torture victim look.

He's not exactly alpha male Baz/Ben, no. He's not a natural leader. Who's in charge of appointing the captain anyway? If stokes is in the team surely he should be captaining?

I'd be mighty fucked off if I'd paid that money for that game, I'd be asking for a refund actually.

"English white ball in disarray. You look at domestic cricket, and what are they playing? In the middle of a heatwave and height of summer? The Championship.

How are the List A players out of the team supposed to get form when the white ball game is being pushed to the margins?"

Ben Jones of cricviz with tongue in cheek.

The entire top order failed at the same time. It happens. I wouldn't read anything into today other than that Jasprit Bumrah is a brilliant bowler and you give him helpful conditions at your peril.

Morgan's team was also prone to the occasional catastrophic failure.

This is all true. However, I do not have great faith in Buttball, he’s not a leader of men. He was a psychological drain on the test team. Yes, he’s a great white ball batter but fuck me he is Buzz Killington.

A couple of unwise shots but some pretty decent bowling from India.

Another defeat incoming for England. Pressure on Buttler

Given how much a ticket to Lord's is these days, once again I'd feel seriously short changed. I didn't see the game. Any reason for how shit both teams seem to have played?

I believe its exactly three years to the day since 'by the barest of margins....'. Now that was a game. This series has been utterly shit.

Good bowling in helpful conditions, perhaps?

The Oval match was a flop. This was like an old-fashioned odi when they still used a red ball and you started to worry when the required rate got above 6.

The world is topsy-turvy.

Great to see Mark Wood on the mend but I can't say I'd be best pleased if I was a humble club cricketer having to face 95mph missiles.
