Donald Trump, the road that might not lead to the White House!

Interesting to hear from someone who reads the papers there every day. I seem to recall that the deficit grew during the Bush Administration; and of course it was the Bush govt that presided over the conditions that resulted in the 2008 crash.

It has happened with such regularity and predictability that I can't credit it to anything other than a deliberate plan:

Us Deficit By President

But, y'know, he's not the establishment, so it's okay.

Trump’s Top HHS Pick Thinks ‘There’s Not One’ Woman Who Can’t Afford Contraception

If he were to become secretary of health and human services, Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) could lead the charge in rolling back the ACA’s birth control benefit, which requires employer-sponsored health insurance plans to cover contraception as preventive care at no cost to the consumer.

So expect to see more of this:

Tennessee Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Charges in Self-Induced Abortion Case

A Tennessee woman accused of using a coat hanger to try to terminate her pregnancy entered a plea of not guilty on Monday to felony charges filed November 12. Anna Yocca was charged in December 2015 with attempted first-degree murder. That charge was reduced in March to aggravated assault.

The deal has widely been seen as a victory for Trump -- he mostly delivered on a campaign promise. But Sanders argues that Carrier and its parent company, United Technologies (UTX), are having the last laugh.

"In essence, United Technologies (parent of Carrier) took Trump hostage and won. And that should send a shock wave of fear through all workers across the country," Sanders said in an Op-Ed in The Washington Post on Thursday.

Sanders key point: If corporations want cushy tax cuts, all you have to do is threaten Trump and say "we're moving to Mexico."

"He has signaled to every corporation in America that they can threaten to offshore jobs in exchange for business-friendly tax benefits and incentives," Sanders wrote.

If Petraeus gets a job in Trump's cabinet, he'll have to notify his parole officer before he can move to Washington:

Retired Gen. David Petraeus, one of the remaining four candidates President-elect Trump is considering for secretary of state, would have to notify his probation officer of his new job if offered the position.

Petraeus, who also served as CIA director, was sentenced on April 23, 2015 to two years probation for giving his mistress, Paula Broadwell, classified information. Under the terms of his court-ordered punishment, he would have to alert his probation officer within three days of being offered the job.

"The defendant shall not leave the Western District of North Carolina without the permission of the Court or probation officer. Travel allowed for work as approved by U.S. probation office," according to the court order. "The defendant shall notify the probation officer within 72 hours of any change in residence or employment."

Trump the mighty dealmaker probably shouldn't have opened negotiations by declaring at a rally in Indianapolis that he is giving a 100% guarantee that the plant will stay open.

Trump's about to learn a lesson about being President. He does something that he thinks is a success - then he catches flack about it from people on both ends of the political spectrum.

I don't know about the nepotism thing. You look at the out group hires like Flynn, Sessions and Bannon. Ivanka may be one of the few almost sane people around The Donald.

Yep, the Carrier deal did at first sound like a victory and a vindication for Trump, but it's seeming a little less like one as the details and the ramifications emerge.

I guess this kind of behavior was how Trump managed to build a reputation as a business genius while losing billions of dollars of other people's money.

I read in some of the articles that Pakistan's broadcasting of the conversation may likely signal a disrespect for Trump, i.e. they're sort of mocking him.
Generally these phone calls are kept short, to the point, and the reporting afterwards is generally deliberately vague and neutrally positive.

Actual transcripts are not usually made public. The fact that Pakistan broke these rules of diplomacy may be somewhat worrying (and a sign of what's to come? more leaders openly disrespecting Trump?)
