Croatia vs England - (SF) - 19:00 - 11/07/2018

Look. It's been fucking glorious. We won a penalty shootout. We won our first knockout game since 1998 or something. We got to our first semi final since 1990. We got further than Germany, Spain, Brazil and Portugal.

I don't need England to be in a World Cup to enjoy it but its made it something special for my kids and for my family.

Well done to the England team. Nothing to be upset about.

You, sir, are far too feckin reasonable and sensible for my liking tonight. I refuse to be anything other than pissed off and gutted. :p;)

I blame my OH for reverse cursing Mandzukic.

OH: He's a bit crap, that one
Me: He plays for some big team, Inter Milan or someone?
Mandzukic: <puts ball in net>

:facepalm::facepalm:

Oh well, we did better than expected.

As the Jackson Five said, it's easy as an ABC

You in China? it seemed pretty popular there... I left around the point where there were a lot of disappointed Messi, ahem I mean Argentina, fans.

Yes, friends were all wanting to come round for the final expecting us to be there :D Not sure they'll fancy the play-off.
ETA Plus the gambling of course, not my mates though

The spaces that started to open up in midfield second half for Croatia were so ominous you could see the goals coming.
Not just that - their midfield choked off any attacking threat England could muster. England need to move beyond being set piece specialists to win anything significant - aside his failure to pass to Sterling (and surely world class strikers have to back themselves) Kane barely saw the ball. I'm not sure he was so much at fault as a midfield that was being utterly dominated.

Pointless arguement. Explain Germany losing to Korea and Mexixo for me
It means Mexico and South Korea excelled themselves by raising their game and beating a team that was way above them in world rankings, that they weren't expected to beat. Something that England failed spectacularly at.

Just put this in context for a moment.

England, ranked 13th in the world, beat 4 teams, ranked 55, 21st (just), 16th (on pens) and 24th.

You lost to teams ranked 3 and 20th.

Hardly set the fucking world alight did you?
err, it obviously passed you by but the World Champions got completely pwned by the 57th ranked team. The 5th Ranked team by the 48th, The 10th by the 41st... This has been a great world cup for the minnows - A celebration of football where the smaller nations have been exceptionally good...

Except for wales that is, who were too shit to qualify.
Check the context ;)

One of if not the youngest squad in the tournament. They can learn and grow from this. There's bags of talent and character in that team and they can stay together for years to come.
Average age 26....only team lower was Nigeria on 25.5....however France are also average age of 26...footballs a young mans game these days...not sure if being 4 years older is much help!
Kane barely saw the ball. I'm not sure he was so much at fault as a midfield that was being utterly dominated.
Kane was pushed back into a midfield position again...i cant tell if this is by instruction from Southgate or a failing of the system. What Kane does best is basically goal hang and generally tap things in and help them on their way.

1st half the England midfield almost completely neutered Modric and Rakitic. Had Kane scored that chance near the post it would have been a different game altogether.

That doesn't change the fact that England had in all fairness an easy run and beat the easy teams and came unstuck against better ones. In danger of building up too much hope for the next competition and seeing England encountering and getting beaten by better teams and going home early

Hope Croatia go on to win it to be honest .

This.

I used to hate it when Bristol City scored early as you just knew we wouldn't follow up on it and it would end up in a draw or loss. The amount of times I watched us lose leads like that.

Dunno about Colombia being an easy team.

Yeah. Agree. It just seemed that in the second half Croatia had the full measure of the England midfield and as a result any penetration was lost.

Yet they still got to the semi finals  The rankings are not worth a wank, you can win a load of games against shit teams, pushing your ranking up.
