I'm not a football lover, and started this WC glazing over every time the fella mentioned something about it, but I've been totally sucked in this time. Never shouted and clapped and cheered so much in me life haha :D That was almost unbearable to watch :D
Same :D i was having to read the text updates on the graun at work and that was bad enough!

Has anyone seen/heard any coverage from outside of England? Always interested in how things are viewed by people who aren't in the thick of it and have a more removed perspective.

I've seen the Colombian manager is upset at our 'antics'. I'm not going to defend some of our diving and fouling, but I'm also not going take that from him, who sent out his team to do that from minute one. Prick can jog on

Hating this. And hating the gloating bollocks from the ABEs. It's shitty behaviour
I've no problem with ABE, why should anyone else support us? Though I like to repay it with patronising encouragement.
Speaking as a fanatical to the point of derangement ABE, my gloating will be intersectional or it will be bullshit.

In the interests of intergalactic proletarian solidarity I have reconstructed the controversial Kane/Sanchez penalty incident.

Colombia coach: England stars 'fall in the box'
"I think that people in England or others should not think of Colombia players like this. It's a very competitive game," Pekerman said.

"England have a great weapon in the air. Players fall in the box. They collide and fall. It's hurtful. You have to try and stand in the shoes of the players. They are subject to situations which shouldn't be present in football."

"A player fakes a foul, they are trying to get the referee to book another player," Pekerman said. "There is a lot of confusion with this type of play. All those situations are determining situations."

He added: "These interruptions are bad. It's OK, but when there are so many fouls and interruptions, that's not good. We have to find the right balance so both teams can play with the same intentions.

"We should not only look to Colombia but also England's players. I think in the next match England will be more careful. Today we were on the receiving end of this. It's been so obvious, too obvious."

Pekerman called for change in the wake of his side's defeat.

"There were many situations, as expected, and everybody knew the match would be like this and I think we have to try to defend football," the Argentine said.

"We have to do something to protect football when certain situations arise. It is uncomfortable to play this match with such refereeing decisions.

"When there are so many fouls that just cannot happen. We have to find ways to avoid that."

"defend football", for fuck's sake...

Watched the highlights last night because I missed most of the 90 mins. Colombia imo turned a lot of decisions against themselves by crowding the ref so much. Could have been a very different game... for which I'm obviously grateful. It's not often we look calm and composed by comparison :D

It's a shame for Colombia because their touch and passing can be really stunning when they're playing and not having tantrums. Despite not having their finesse I do think England were the better team in the end last night.

Gareth Southgate is the reason i fancy men with big noses :thumbs: I can pay him no better compliment :D but seriously, I think the fact our players mostly kept their heads has been his influence.

NZ Herald have remembered that football exists and put out this scorching hot take: Goalmouth Scramble: Why England haven't got a hope of winning the World Cup

I think it is time that the football mimicked rugby. Had the players mobbed a rugby ref like that, there would have been multiple sendings off. Man U under Ferguson started this shit, and it should have been stopped then.

This thread suggests otherwise.

I expect Welsh, Scottish and Irish fans not to support England, in fact most to be ABE (I'm typing this in Cardiff, I also used to live in Scotland). I once serenaded a bar full of Scotland fans in Kirkcaldy with a drunken version of Jerusalem :D. I just find coming on to a supporter thread to post bile, not humour, and being utterly humourless in response to that being pointed out, a bit shit really, not that that will stop it. You didn't do that btw.

I've had several Welsh colleagues come in this morning to congratulate me on my hangover.

The thing that always strikes me about the ABE stuff on threads like this is how closely it reflects exactly the sort of England support it claims to oppose. It's based on fixed perceptions of attitudes (naturally all England fans assume England are entitled to win), borderline xenophobic (always ready with the implication the English are a bit German), disrespectful to other teams (you didn't thrash Albania!) and obviously humourless and relentlessly repetitive. And obsessed with England of course (you don't get it so much on the rugby threads where the teams are closer I don't think).

It's not the antithesis of a load of blokes chanting 'Eng-er-lund' for hours - it's more a reflection of it. And tbh those England fans aren't on here are they.

You do get it on the Rugby threads (a couple of our Welsh cousins there are utterly obsessed with England) but its done with a sense of humour rarely found with the ABE football lot. Also the ribbing is mostly aimed at the team rather the nation and there is a lack of the weird cod history that you get on the football threads as people somehow try to link Danny Rose to the Suez Crisis or something.
