Barbara Ellen on "female on male" violence

What I'm saying is that the data set you have referred to is a larger dataset than the one I have linked to - also without going back to the raw datasets they have used it is very difficult to ensure the stats are correct, especially in this case as the coding for suicides has changed over the past few years has changed.

It's also caveated with this statement straight away:
Only looking at the number of suicides in a nation may be misleading as to where suicide is more prevalent. This is due to difference in population size. Rates per 100,000 are used to give a truer picture of where suicide is more prevalent

those stats are somewhat different to what you claimed earlier

Funny you should mention that, almost 5000 males in the UK committed suicide in 2012, compared to almost 1000 females, but sure men don't have feelings!!

That's almost 14 a week.

M - 4590
F - 1391

But then, you dont seem to bothered about actual 'facts,' just the usual tosh that all violence is bad, and there's no difference between male on female violence and female upon male

What sort of society are we living in when over 5000 of our citizens decide it would be better to end their own lives rather than go on living

No one does not 'excuse' the other!!!

why did you lie about the stats earlier?

(and its over 6000, btw, once again, you only seem to be counting rather less than every other woman)

OMG your now fighting over who has the most suicides.

How much more ridiculous could this debate get.

I read the table wrong okay. Sorry!!

Gender equality, not division!!!

It could never get more ridiculous than your opening post was

We don't the reasons why people commit suicide. No-one here is saying it's a good thing that they do, and suicide is a very different issue to violence.

Reasons are complex. For example, the punitive process that Atos puts some of the most vulnerable through has been noted as the cause in several cases.

Whats yours??

That all you seem to be saying on the one hand is violence is bad. A point so banal I can't believe it's all you started this thread to say. OTOH you seem to think women can go around assaulting men with barely a raised eyebrow and are siting the aarticle in support. This is demonstrably rubbish and you've clearly wilfully or otherwise misread it. So being generous, I think you haven't really thought this through and are just posting defencive non sequetors. Or seemingly more likely you have some agenda that smacks of MRA crap.

So what is your point?

Nobody is fighting over 'the most suicides' as you put it. Perhaps if you concentrated on one argument and debated it rather than throwing your toys out of the pram and introducing every issue you can think of (suicide! gender equality!) in a scattergun approach this thread might actually go somewhere.

Yes, I would say 'atos' is not helping matters, broader social and economic deprivation through austerity doesn't help. Mens inability to channel their emotion properly doesn't help.

'Atos doesn't help' is probably the understatement of the year. You also seem to be making sweeping generalisations about men's' emotional capability. Less generalising and more facts would probably help your arguments enormously, if you could be bothered making them.

Even when I'm agreeing with you I'm still wrong.

'All you seems to' by your own admission, this your own interpretation of what I am saying. You glossing over my points, ignoring anything that is meaningful and making sweeping statements which really amount to nothing!!
