soooo.... urban meet?
Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) have organised a march to protest against government proposals to cut Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
The march will take place on 26 March 2011 in London.
There will also be a main TUC march at 11am. The TUC protest will assemble at Victoria Embankment, to march to a rally in Hyde Park.
DPAC are still finalising arrangements of where everyone can meet before this TUC march.
There are also plans to arrange a static protest for those unable to march to Hyde Park. In announcing this protest, DPAC writes:
'Disabled people are facing continuing attacks against their lives, living standards and basic human rights to live independently from almost every conceivable quarter and it is time for us to fight back against these cuts.
These savage spending cuts damage not only our lives, but our public services, and threaten economic recovery. They're dangerous, unfair and unnecessary.
Disabled people are going to march to tell the government we demand “Rights not Charity” and to show we are not easy victims of their cuts even though they may think we are.'
For information about transport to the march go to http://www.righttowork.org

Want to go, but a bit weary of taking a 12 year-old boy with us...
Saturday 26 March 2011, 12noon
Start at CoolTan Arts, Finish at Imperial War Museum
CoolTan Arts and Disability Lib join forces and organise a Largactyl Shuffle against the cuts, an alternative inclusive demo for disabled and non disabled people to march together and make their voices heard against the cuts.
Michelle Baharier, a campaigner for disability equality and rights, against stigma and discrimination, and the infamous Ari Henry, local campaigner and co-founder of the People’s Republic of Southwark, will lead this demo and history walk about disabled people’s rights.
We encourage people from all backgrounds to join this walk and are looking for people / contributors who can share their stories and give input into the history of disabled people’s rights and equality, achievements and obstacles, and potential dangers coming from the spending cuts for people with disabilities and service provision.
The walk organised as an alternative to the big national rally ‘March for the Alternative’ organised by the TUC in response to the government’s programme of fast and deep public spending cuts, and enables people with disabilities, who might not feel safe in a big crowded environment, to make their voices heard.
Disabled People Against the Cuts are planning online campaign pages to allow people to contribute without having to attend the main march. See http://www.dpac.uk.net/2011/02/ligh...th-the-protesters-on-the-streets-on-26-march/
On the day, we plan to record what we do as it happens and liaise with the TUC and Disabled People Activists on the main march so we could have regular updates from them.
Join the Largactyl Shuffle against the cuts – an inclusive space where people can participate who don’t want to take part in the main march! Meet us at 12noon on the 26th March at CoolTan Arts, Unit B 237 Walworth Road, London SE17 1RL.
