What new foods have you tried recently?

The youf don't realise how shit Oreos are.

Which is why someone had the ridiculous idea of Oreo Coca-Cola. My daughter came home with a bottle and tbf it was being given out for free.

It smells of Oreo, has normal coke taste but with an Oreo aftertaste.
I've never had an oreo - they always look way too sweet for some reason.
 
Just had a blue egg. Wonderful creamy texture and flavour.

I'll be having them again.

Maybe not a new food, but certainly a new low: a ginger nut with some chantilly cream squirted on.
Also: vanilla ice cream with ginger nut crumbs stirred in.

I seem to be on the diet Robert De Niro ate to prepare for Raging Bull. Match fit I am!
There is a classic gingernut pudding you can make which just involves sandwiching a load of gingernuts together with whipped cream in the shape of a log and chilling overnight. I think ideally you dip the biscuits in brandy or another liquid first.

Little bit nobbly pear shape green fruit which is used as a veg .Its been in season here for about a month or so. I have seen it loads of times and asked about it and people said you boil it like a potato or put it in stews. Its related to the squash family but its very crisp raw with the consistency between a hard apple and a waterchestnut and its brilliant in salads . I'm goint to experiment with the other half of it in the airfyer

Coincidentally yesterday watching fruit videos I thought that next time I was at the Indian deli I should buy a selection of their cucurbits...

This week I think it's time I cycled to the big Chinese supermarket and hopefully buy more than my usual seaweed and dried shiitake...
 
Bitter melon/gourd.
Did the sprinkling with salt, squeezing and rinsing step first, then stir fried with Szechuan pepper, chilli flakes and garlic. The recipe said to be generous on the salt.
It was different. Crunchy and bitter but not in a bad way.
I wouldn't serve it without a neutral starch (we had it with cheung fun but I gather it's usually served with rice).
 
I know it's not food. It tasted like a really good apple pie; it was Turkish apple tea. Delish.
I have vague memories of drinking a lot of apple tea back in the day at the Kurdish Centre, I think it was in or near Dalston - somewhere in south Hackney, anyway.
Very refreshing.
 
I took a punt on these in Aldi - not sure if I've ever eaten a persimmon - probably somewhat put off by reading about persimmon bezoars
Plus a bonus ripeish fuschia berry which I fully expect to be disappointing ...

Make sure the persimmons are very ripe. A lot sold in the U.K. are bland and dry until they’re almost rotten when they become incredibly sweet, almost like honey.

In both Spain and Portugal we would leave them until they were almost ready to be thrown away, then they were fantastic.

thanks - maybe I'll put them in a bag with some other fruit ...
 
Stick a banana in a paper bag with them, the banana releases a lot of ethylene and can speed up the ripening of other fruit - it's a trick I've used with hard avocadoes in the past.
I daren't have bananas in the house - maybe I'll use it as an excuse if the things are still rock hard this time next week ... :p
