What new foods have you tried recently?

Don't understand these at all. Taste mainly of salt and are unpleasantly chewy, which means they're stuck in your teeth for ages afterwards. Note the double reds - they don't even have a Good For You get out of jail card.

The fats should be the healthy kind though - nuts and seeds are good for you. Might want to give those a good rinse to get rid of the salt though.

Reminds me that I've got a few kilos of seeds that I bought for bread making and didn't get round to using - need to check the best before date. Will donate it to the birds if need be.

You do know that you're not supposed to eat the shell, right? It's a common error.

They take a bit of practice to eat. Suck the salt off, then crack the shell between your teeth to get at the kernal. Then spit the shell out.

Effort

Little piles of shells next to benches round my way.

But it gives you something to do whilst watching a film! We used to go through kilos of the stuff when I was a kid, although usually we had a version with less salt (like farmerbarleymow said, the fats are of the healthy sort). Every so often a bowl with discarded shells got upturned on the sofa and bits fell in between the cushions. It drove my mother nuts.

I love anchovies. Good ones are rare here, but earlier this week we were in Eyemouth where we got some smoked ones.

They are absolutely amazing! Lovely balance of smoke, oil, and saltiness.

It's almost an hour's drive to get there but we will be going back to buy more.
