US election 2020 thread

If you want a really interesting contrast, go look at Colorado: Denver/Boulder going for Biden as do most of the mountain counties. Almost all Trump on the plains and desert though.

Plenty probably. But half of americans do not expect there to be a peaceful transition of power and everyone here seems to want to dismiss that flipantly too ( I do get that half of americans are very probably wrong).

I'd start getting concerned if Trump won the Georgia recount, 'cos that would add a lot of fucking fuel to the conspiracy fire. Until then, I'll watch on with bemusement. (Like most people, I guess.)

Trump won't win the recount, but they will make constant and attempts to disrupt it, with court petitions, protests, the behaviour of their observers and so on.

The confederate flag was part of their state flag until very recently. Earlier this year I think. It's not the most progessive state
They just voted to change the flag a week ago... so they're marginally less embarrassing than before but not much

Edit: sorry, the state legislature voted to ditch the old one in the summer and the vote last week was to approve the new one

Plenty of states have references (or alleged references) to the Confederacy on their flags - Florida, Arkansas and Alabama for three. May be more. But only Georgia and Mississippi have had the battle flag on their official flag in recent times

They were, although Georgia's (which used to incorporate the Battle Flag) is based on the Bars and Stars, which was the first Confederate flag. Not as controversial, though.
Reading up on it, Georgia's awful flag was only adopted in 1956, before which the previous designs had also been based on the Stars & Bars. Mississippi had been proudly flying the battle flag since 1894, further cementing their status as Worst State in the Union

Not sure it isn't a lot worse to be making that change a year after that incident with Rosa Parks' bum, tbh.

The ironic thing about Alaska is that they have an average $2000 per person payout to everyone living in the state. You don't have to do anything for it but live there.
Gone down massively in recent years, hasn’t it? And it’s distribution has changed to be far more in favour of the federal government

AZ call possible tonight - Maricopa County has half the remaining ballots in the state and should be dropping most of them soon. Trump needs 60+% of them and it doesn't seem likely

AZ state law is (I think) an automatic recount if within 0.1% and candidates have no right to request one. So that could very well be curtains for Trump there
