US election 2020 thread

I don't actually think any of them will put themselves forward, but I do think some Trump wannabe will, and will get the nomination.

The point I would make, though, is that the story doesn't come to a sudden halt because some Republican grey suits decide enough is enough. If that was how it worked, Trump would never have happened in the first place.
Nobody thinks the story has come to a sudden halt!

K, we won today therefore no more battles.

Who thinks that? Nobody. But it's worth having a beer and a cheer about.

Lads, nobody ever has the slightest idea who wins the nomination until we're about four caucuses/primaries deep. It's never who you think it'll be either, especially four years out

A couple of Fox News anchors will try their luck I reckon

I was originally responding to the view that Trump couldn't stand in 2024 because

even a lot of high up Republicans will come to see him as a loon

And making the point that this would neither be new nor relevant to who the Republicans might nominate in future.

You definitely have my permission to get ratarsed, but that's OT.

Apologies if this has already been turned over but there is this - Like it or not, a Trump self-pardon may be coming soon

Have I missed something there? I hope so!

He can't pardon himself for offences committed at the state level. If New York want to prosecute him, they will

I think the idea was that he could temporarily step down (?) and have Pence pardon him, then step up again (batshit but... ). Is that, specifically, not legal at state level, then?
