US election 2020 thread

In 4 years time, 'Trump wins Georgia' the day after the contest between Mr Cornpop and Mitt Romney or whoever the Republican establishment has chosen.

President Mutt Romney (Deceased) tries hard but, much like Biden, does very little to actually unite America between 2024 and 2033.

The ghost of John McCain would walk it if the social media fawning over his 2008 concession speech yesterday was anything to go by
Cynicism is healthy, but it was a good speech considering who was giving it. I remember listening to it live. However cynical you are about the process and what difference it can really make – or even how making the disadvantaged believe in it is part of the con – it felt like a moment. And listening to it again yesterday, which I did, it still does.

So Biden's probably has Penn, Georgia and Nevada, while Trump probably has Alaska, N Carolina 1 College in Maine and maybe Arizona... Am I right?

Well that was a long night for very little gained

One thing that was in my mind to mention is that for all the talk what feels like years ago of the apparent small rise in GOP support amongst African-Americans, the fact is in terms of sheer weight of turnout it would seem that black voters in Atlanta, Detroit, Philadelphia and Milwaukee have effectively won the election for Joe Biden. Trump thanked black voters for not voting in Michigan last time - this time they showed up

Oh, it was a great speech I'll give him that. But it was full of bullshit too, and the gushing response yesterday from overtired liberals was a bit gross. Presumably they all then went on to rewatch the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony to wind down.

Well, this was almost inevitable with Trump spouting off:

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are investigating an alleged plot to attack the Pennsylvania Convention Center where ballots are being counted.

Action News has learned Thursday night that police got a tip about a group driving up from Virginia in a Hummer to unleash an attack at the Convention Center.

Police said they found a weapon and two people were transferred to Central Detectives.

This goes with the plot to kidnap and murder at least two governors in October. They've also expanded Biden's security detail in anticipation of his election win.

I suppose Arizona would be hand in terms of limiting Trump's room to manoeuvre in the courts. Not that he has a case, but the more reliant Biden is on the Blue wall the more Trump can play legal games.

Yes I think optics and narrative matter too. The bigger the victory in terms of electoral college votes the better - needs to counter the powerful perception that something was stolen somewhere

Yes, let's force them into believing that everything was stolen everywhere.

I didn't see it but I'd imagine there was a fair amount of relief that trump wouldn't be letting the far right loose on them for the next four years, though.

tbh this is why it felt like a moment. We could easily have been back to the 60s - Obama assassinated after a few months, widespread civil unrest, black people being killed by the police all over the place, etc.

Yes, basically what we have now in the US, they could easily have had then. McCain's speech made a material difference.
