US election 2020 thread

It's clearer than ever, they need to scarp the electoral college system, and go for a simple national vote, putting a stop to this batshit crazy nonsense, once and for all.

I couldn't agree more but the smaller states that benifit from it wouldn't ratify the constitutional change needed. In fact i think i vaguely remember reading it was attempted before and failed. Will have to google in a bit.

Edit:

Under the current system nobody gives a fuck about North Dakota do they? The Democrats don't but the Republicans don't work for their votes either - they're in the bag so no need to worry.

The only reason those states exist in their current form is because they were settled and added to the Union one by one as the original inhabitants were killed or forced off their land - they should just combine them all into a mega-Dakota or something, though I don't think any candidate would get far with a "Your stupid little state shouldn't even exist" message.

In trump’s own mind, he might have totally believed that the plan would work, just get all his people to vote on the day and then decree that the rest of the votes should not be counted, and everyone would just obey the order. Because who says no to him. Hadn’t realised that before, even though previous declarations made totally clear that he has no actual grasp of the limits of presidential powers.

Maybe the polls weren't quite as crap as 1st thought on Wednesday?
Yeah they are. They got a couple about right (inc Arizona) but were generally just about as bad as last time

They had Biden at an average lead of 8.5 percentage points nationally. With this turnout, that equates to about a 12 million win in the popular vote. When everything is finished counting, he could have 6 million perhaps - lots of California to go. So they gave him double the lead he will end up with.

Blimey, according to the Guardian's map, California has only counted 66% of votes so far.

If I lived in Alaska I'd vote to watch the world burn. It'd save a fortune on heating.
