US election 2020 thread

A lot of made of white/black/brown or rich/poor. The real divide in the US is between rural and city.
That's just favourite football team politics though. The rich are still screwing the poor (and screwing the black poor even worse) in the towns and in the fields whoever gets in.

yeah, I've scanned a few states' numbers on the interactive maps and even in the red ones, nearly all the major cities are very blue. While even the bluest states are rural red.

(And then there's Staten Island... )

They don't seem to have had a plan beyond "We'll shout 'fraud' and go to court." Which I actually think is quite surprising.
I think we should wait and see tbh. Fat lady is far from having sung. But if part of the plan was massive riots by those outraged at the FRAUD (and the counter protests) so he might implement the Insurrection Act it doesn't seem to be working.

Less dramatically, it could help the remaining Republicans spin a few yarns during Biden's term that keeps the Dems on the backfoot when governing and campaigning.

There is some overlap between classifications. In general, you'll find poorer people in rural areas than in cities.

Re: Georgia - there are around 17,000 votes still to count in Chatham County (Savannah) and the county says it will need until tomorrow. Given how close it is there, I guess that likely means we don't get a winner - or even a projected winner - tonight

I don't think so. This could all look very different in a couple of days' time. If Biden takes PA, Nevada and Arizona (making the WI recount irrelevant), that's it - time to concede. There is no narrative here. Just shouting fraud in capital letters isn't an argument. Any republican who wants to keep credibility will run away from that. They already are.

i find it hard to imagine that donald trump gives much of a shit what happens to either party, or anyone really, after he's not the president anymore.
No, but the Republicans could stoke that distrust of the Dems. They stole the election, or at least won it in dubious circumstances, what else are they willing to do...?

Aye, fair enough. Still wouldn't put it past them to exploit it on a more ground level.

If they want to lose again in four years' time, that's what they should do. If not, they will be wise to run as far away from that as quickly as possible, and I don't doubt that's what they'll do. Trump's 'friends' are already melting away and he hasn't even properly lost yet.

Yep, if biden wins it will be interesting to see what the republican party do. I feel like they'll use the time to try to re-package themselves not continue in trumpism, but maybe not, he worked well for them if they want to stick with voter suppression as the main strategy, its not sustainable long term though.

Oh they're like the Tories. They think they should be in power all the time. They won't see Trump losing after one term as working well for them.
