US election 2020 thread

America is not being united by this election. A narrow Biden victory also means Trumpism has been legitimized. It's embedded in the Republican party now. McConnell and Graham will set their sights on 2024 by crippling Biden and smearing Harris. He won't be permitted to undo what Trump has done and he'll be hobbled by the economic damage of the pandemic. Republicans will put the blame for it on him, and rally round a 2024 Trumpist candidate. Maybe Don Junior.
It should have been a landslide. The Dems. seem incapable of mounting a really effective campaign, even though they will win this one. They lost 5 seats in the house and gained only one senate seat. Their next pres candidate may be Sen Tom Cotton of Arkansas who gained fame trying to wreck the Iran nuke deal while Obama was still pres.

You told us that the BLM protests had handed the election to Trump.

There are signs that the GOP is stepping away from the President. When Mitch McConnell and others are saying "count all the votes" and not really doing much to support Trump, the writing's on the wall.
He'll continue to make noise but he's running out of friends

The candidate was nuts though, how else can you deal with it?.
“It’s fraud, they stopped counting”

Maitliss: “but they’re counting now”

But they stopped last night

Maitliss: “I don’t understand. All the votes will be counted”

“But they stopped last night then started again”

Maitliss: “are you saying that negates the validity of the election”

“I’m saying we won in Pennsylvania and Detroit”

Maitliss: “But they’re still counting their votes too” ....

That was pure gold.

Disappointment is the only thing the Dems are consistent at. Even Obama, with 8 years as actual President, left 2.3 million people in jail and killed a record number of people with drones.

You were very wrong. Even though Biden was (just about) the worst candidate that the Dems have ever had, he’s going to win anyway. And now the galvanised left, already used to getting out there to protest, are ready to defend that win.
I'm delighted the orange Mussolini was unsuccessful.

I have to agree with you about the huge numbers he left in prison. He should have used his pardon powers.

Anyway - overnight counts:
PA - Trump's lead down to 164,000 with maybe 750,000 left to count
AZ - Biden's lead has narrowed to 68,000. Maricopa County (Phoenix) not due to release more results until tonight (so wee small hours for us). Last night's count was Trump +18 and it's not clear how many left to count so it does feel like the AZ call was premature
GA - Trump's lead is down to 23,000, less than a percentage point. Still plenty of ballots out around Atlanta and Savannah
NV - no change, nothing doing until later today

One thing about the Americans which impresses me today is the voter turnout. We have it easy here, but most Americans don't get a civic holiday on voting day. Plenty of rich republican employers won't give time off for low wage employees to vote because they''ll probably vote Dem. And as we all saw, many people have to spend 8 or 10 hours queuing to vote, which is a bit rich when you only get 2 weeks annual leave and you have to sacrifice one day of it for a fucking election.

Bit more squeaky bum time about Arizona

With the swing to Trump among Latino voters and a Georgia win for Biden now appearing likely, looks like there's a chance the Electoral College could end up Biden 269, Trump 271 if Trump wins both Arizona and Nevada.
