Number 8. Fucking hell. I got to the top 10 and was thinking Haiku Salut would be outside of the top 30 somewhere when the full list was posted. Was a genuine shock to see it there.

Great list, as always - lots of stuff to explore. I'd never heard of The Exbats, but instantly love them.

I didn't send a list, as far as new records I'd listened to enough to be able to confidently vote for go, there was a mixture of EPs I thought were really good (Early Mornings, Rudimentary Peni, Skopje vs Sheffield), a few albums by artists I usually like that didn't particularly grab me this time round and I'm not confident would make it into my top 10 if I'd actually listened to more than 10 new albums this year (Fucked Up, Iceage, Xiu Xiu), and then that Lana Del Rey album that I disliked enough that it made me vow to new listen to any more of her stuff. Ask me again in 10 years. Still surprised by how weak the urban swiftie caucus is, though.

The Gemma Cullingford album was on my shortlist.

I only submitted one entry - thinking that was the only album released this year I'd listened to..

Jane Weaver - Flock

However it turns out there's several.. would have added Graeme Coxon, Gruff Rhys and Dry Cleaning

Think I must have missed the Sleaford Mods and Low.. will be giving them a listen..

The Gemma Cullingford album was on my shortlist.
That's the album I've kept going back to this year. It's exactly the kind of of synth-pop/post-punk/80s industrial/coldwave type stuff I'm into, done really well, with great tune after great tune, but then she goes and does that devastating cover of Ode to Billy Joe and it's in just the right place on the album and its fucking fantastic.

Many thanks to belboid again this year.

I have been liking that, but don't think it really counts as a 2021 album.

30 Chrissy - Physical Release

Physical Release is a declared effort to, in Chrissy’s own words, reclaim the “utopian ideals” of the dance scene and return it to its core principles: family, connection and joy. Very groovy.

Listening to this for the first time. It's great, thanks.

I didn't enter this year as I've not given many albums a proper listen, but these were on my "listen to these properly so you can vote for them in earnest" list:

Franck Roger - 44
Dam-Funk - Above the Fray
Teno Afrika - Amapiano Selections
Derek Carr - Arrival
Anthony Naples - Chameleon
ALEPH - EGO DEATH
Kaidi Tatham. - An Insight to All Minds
Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio - I Told You So
Jose Manuel - Janara
Felipe Gordon - A Landscape Onomatopeya
Andy Stott - Never The Right Time
MMM - On the Edge
Floating Points & Pharoah Sanders - Promises
Leon Vynehall - Rare, Forever
Secret Night Gang - Secret Night Gang
Nightmares On Wax - Shout Out! To Freedom...
Joy Orbison - still slipping vol. 1
Ross From Friends - Tread
Leron Carson - Under the Conditions
Voilaaa - Voiciii
XL Middleton & Delmar Xavier VII - XL Middleton & Delmar Xavier VII
Placid Angles - Touch the Earth

I probably would have voted Leron Carson as AOTY, if pushed to pick one...

Her music partner from Sink Ya Teeth released a couple of good tracks as well this year. This is my fave, it's a A Certain Ratio remix of a track from her 2020 EP

This is good - quite surprised at how decent the current ACR stuff is - I listened to their recent album (from last year I think) after I went to see them the other week and there's some songs on there that are as good as anything they've done.

Yes recent output is good especially after so long out of the game . Must admit though I miss the edgyness and experimental side of their earlier stuff .
Last years album was excellent and some of the remixes are good as well.

Working my way through some of the albums & the UAotY. Annoyed with self for forgetting to do my list as have probably listened to & bought more music this year than for a long time. Can console myself i have 4 of the top 10. Mogwai, Biceps, Arlo Parks & Low.
Can see me adding a few more. Mario Batkovic could be this years Mary Lattimore.
Well done again belboid.

I also went to see them recently - was very impressed. I like their new singer/flautist.

Expected it to be a Madchester-esque throwback gig, with a crowd full of middle-aged, fat, bald guys. And, well, the crowd prediction was true, but the music was fresh
