12 Hypnotic Brass Ensemble - This Is a Mindfulness Drill
People who like this like it a lot. Must admit I don’t get it myself. The title gives as good a clue as to what they sound like than anything I could write.
well found! I couldn't manage it last nightyou've got their previous album 'bad boys of jazz' on the bandcamp link there belboid - I don't think the latest is on there
edit: actually it is - here: This is a Mindfulness Drill: A Reimagining of Richard Youngs' 'Sapphie', by Hypnotic Brass Ensemble
I've only got one too, it just means our choices are so cool no-one's heard of them / likes them, or that they're all in the top 10.I've got one of my 20 in here so far, the Japanese Breakfast one. I'm so out of the loop
I think the way people find out about new music has changed quite a bit in the last decade, and probably more so in the last couple of years - the music press is becoming less relevant, streaming algorithms (much) more important. While I'm dubious about much of what streaming has changed, maybe this is one good thing about it.There were pretty much bang on the average total votes cast this year, but the variation in choices was easily the greatest ever, with a larger number of individual albums ever voted for. I would often see a vote sent in from a 'familiar customer' and think 'well, this one should set us more on a usual rockist path' - but no, it'd be another twenty with stuff I'd barely heard of. Some of which were actually rather good.
I think there is definitely something in that, as well as that there was a lot more fully pandemic recorded music that was released that reflects either a more introspective tone and/or rage and fury. I do think they are the two main elements of our choices this year.I wonder if it is because people have listened to more music because of the pandemic.
