Well, that was all very interesting. The annual album recommendations thread was notably less predictive than it usually is - loads of stuff here that never appeared there, or didn't attract much notice if it did.

I'd love to know how many voted for Mario Batkovic at no. 10. If it was many more than flypanam and me and possibly killer b I'll be amazed, which really brings home just how spread out our (not-so-)collective choices were overall.

It was my no. 5. Great stuff. Thanks for introducing me to it.

Should be the Lady Blackbird album but haven't seen anyone on Urban mention it so I doubt it.
If only it was called Black Ladybird, would've been a shoe-in then.
I'm assuming the tons of votes for Skopje vs Sheffield were all thrown out for it being too short, and Year of the Horse was similarly disqualified for technically being a single cos it's one big song, even though it lasts for about an hour and a half?

Split album = Compilation, so NO!

One big song would be fine, is fine. Splitting said track into four and calling them Title Parts 1-4 would have been fine. But calling them Acts 1-4. Even bigger fucking NO!

I can't believe Fucked Up, Rat Cage and Nervous SS have been deprived of their rightful place at the top of the pops, as voted for by the urban masses, by your petty rules. :(

I listened to this a couple of times and both times I liked it while it was on but couldn't remember anything about it as soon as it finished, and by the time I was putting a list together I'd forgotten it even existed

I sent my biggest ever list this year (30!) and only 3 appeared anywhere in this list :D Also surprised at how few of these appeared on the Album Recs thread, it's almost like you have actual lives or something :hmm:

Do I mind? Not at all, cos now I've got loads of cool new stuff to explore. Thanks belboid :)

Here we go then, the 'unsuccessful' Number 1's. I think this is the lot

  15. Flyying Colours - Fantasy Country

My top seven (there were plenty more than that I liked, but I never send a full list - after the first few, the difficulty of ranking them starts to stress me out and I just leave off at that point)

Dead Cell - Weather Warning
Sarah Neufeld - Detritus
Oslo Tapes - Ør
Lingua Ignota - Sinner Get Ready
The Shalabi Effect - The Shalabi Effect
Mario Batkovic - Introspectio
Jessica Moss - Phosphenes

I was sorry not to see Dead Cell or Lingua Ignota make an appearance because I know they have at least a few admirers around here, surprised Batkovic did place, but not surprised the others didn't.

I am surprised at the complete lack of Courtney Barnett, first album made Number 1, second (another from 2018) made it to 7, but this one? Nowhere.
I didn't even know she'd released another album, and I like CB, so that's an end of year bonus for me to check out

These were mine. The Eris Drew one is fucking ace, as was the Garnier/Liminanas album.

Eris Drew: Quivering in time
The Limiñanas, Laurent Garnier: De Pelicula

Writhing Squares - Chart for the Solution

Just realised I voted Mario Batkovic twice! Rushed it. Doh.
