Urban75 Album of the Year 2022 - The Results

Fontaines was the only one of mine that charted (unless you include Aldous Harding at 29). I was surprised it won but thought it would feature somewhere.
I think I've only ever once had the winner anywhere in my selections, but I usually have a few further down. Looks like I went for the 'wrong' Oren Ambarchi! :D

Sudan Archives - Natural Brown Prom Queen
Fontaines D.C. - Skinty Fia
Ron Trent presents WARM - What do the stars say to you
La Société Étrange - Chance
Oren Ambarchi, Johan Berthling & Andreas Werliin - Ghosted
They Hate Change - Finally, New
Infinity Knives & Brian Ennals - King Cobra
Nik Colk Void - Bucked Up Space
Ethel Cain - Preacher's Daughter
Decius - Decius Vol. I
Two Shell - Icons
Elucid - I Told Bessie
Pusha T - It's Almost Dry
Anteloper - Pink Dolphins
Enumclaw - Save the Baby
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Cool It Down
Dry Cleaning - Stumpwork
Aldous Harding - Warm Chris
Moin - Paste
Nilüfer Yanya - Painless

I had a solid amount that charted:

Special Interest - Endure
Beach House - Once Twice Melody
Porridge Radio - Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder to the Sky
Wet Leg - Wet Leg
Drug Church - Hygiene
Soul Glo - Diaspora Problems

(^these ones were the absolute standouts for me)

Mountain Goats - Bleed Out
Dalek - Precipice
Chat Pile - God’s Country
(^this is the cutoff point for "albums that I'd listened to enough to form a proper opinion on", the others are the less confident opinions: )

Chats - Get Fucked
Ho99o9 - Skin
Midnight - Let There Be Witchery
Devil Master - Ecstasies of Never Ending Night
Automatic - Excess
Alvvays - Blue Rev
Big Joanie - Back Home
teen suicide - honeybee table at the butterfly feast

TBH I thought that was a very rock oriented list. Good stuff on there but what happened to all the hip hop?
Soul Glo's not not hip-hop, I reckon? And not my fault that no-one else voted for Dalek.

It's been a great year for albums. I've kept finding new ones that are excellent and then I find another one that I get really into for a bit and then another that is amazing but doesn't get the attention it deserves as I found another one. There's not enough time to listen to everything I want to. Some years I've struggled to find 10 that I think are worth voting for, but this year I quickly got to 40 and there's still others I didn't include. And I never did get round to listening to the Beyonce album, even though I kept hearing Break My Soul on Pride weekend and thought to myself I must check the album out.

Here's what I went with:

Horace Andy – Midnight Scorcher
Steve O’Sullivan – Dimensions
Hatchie – Giving the World Away
Gemma Cullingford – Tongue Tied
Winter Severity Index – Disgelo
Nu Genea - Bar Mediterraneo
xPropaganda - The Heart is Strange
Boy Harsher – The Runner OST
Danae – Good Fruit
Acid Klaus - Step on My Travelator: The Imagined Career Trajectory of Superstar DJ & Dance Pop Producer, Melvin Harris
Yin Yin – The Age of Aquarius

Melody’s Echo Chamber - Emotional Eternal
Etran de L'Aïr – Agadez
Sault – Today & Tomorrow
Horace Andy – Midnight Rocker
Congo Natty – Ancestorz (Rootz of Jungle)
Hagan - Textures

Montparnasse Musique – Archeology
Caroline Loveglow - Strawberry
Minami Deutsch – Fortune Goodies
Stephen Mallinder - Tick Tick Tick
Loop - Sonancy
Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul – Topical Dancer
Sault – Earth
Confidence Man – Tilt
Radiant Love – IWD Comp Vol 3
Automatic – Excess
Trentemoller – Memoria
Taylor Swift – Midnights
Darren Nye – Voyage of Light

Along with many other albums, I listened to it once and quite liked it but have yet to listen again and decide whether I like it more.

I have to say, nothing this year has reached in and squeezed my heart. Lots of stuff I've enjoyed, nothing much that's really imprinted on me. Suspect the problem is me, I have felt disconnected/disassociated through much of the year in general :hmm:
