Urban75 Album of the Year 1992

7 - The Prodigy - Experience

the-prodigy-experience-Cover-Art.jpg

The Prodigy when they were hip before they were popular. You bunch of smartypantses.
they were already past it by 1992 :D ;)

Good shout on Redman, Indeliblelink .

Slightly closer to home:

Sprang to my mind as well, as well as the flooring of sensible Schofield the year before. Seems impossible that Sheriff Fatman from a couple of years before didn't make top 10. Still play it all the time, or used to until the CD player on my old car conked in

hmm, still to come.... The Cure, The Fall, mmm, maybe Jesus Lizard and a fight off for number 1 between RATM and Nick Cave, who will win.

I listened to this for the first time in years. I was weighing up whether it should be on my list but I found with this and some of the other rap I listened to was just cringey in its misogyny. It's always been there but the older I get the more it jars. 2001 is worse though much as I still love some of the tracks.
2001 is pretty awful in its themes, and the music isn't wonderful. The Chronic though is stunning, and for me can be seen through a more caricatured lens than its successor.

It'll be interesting to see where Doggystyle charts in the 1993 poll.

I think I know the remaining three (Aphex, Orb and Sugar), but I'm not sure in what order.

ETA: OK, I was wrong on at least one.

I wasn't really into this period, so I sort of bailed on it. Made a list of things nobody else would vote for.

1 Jim O'Rourke - Scend
2 Il Berlione - Il Berlione
3 Jazz Group Arkhangelsk - Live in Japan
4 Hijokaidan - The Neverending Story of the King of Noise
5 Dai Xiaolian - L'art de la cithare Qin
6 Dur-Dur Band - Africa
7 Maria Behânia - Olha D'Água
8 Muzsikás - Szól a kakas már: Magyar zsidó népzene
9 Adriana Calcanhoto - Senhas
10 Änglagård - Hybris

17 Derek Bailey - Solo Guitar Volume 2
18 Už Jsme Doma - Nemilovaný svět
19 Bailey/Frith/Sharrock/Zorn/Laswell/Noyes - Improvised Music New York 1981

It's unhip but it took some research and everything on it is amazing. :p

Edit: Oops should have read the previous post. Was also going to suggest Ride but see that's been done as well.

Edit of Edit. Its been chosen twice. Could be on the strength of their rocking TV outing. Loved it.

No Jesus Lizard!

I know March 16-20 isn't their greatest album but Uncle Tupelo at least deserved a mention on the thread if not a place in the list.

I really liked your dub choices but I thought the Alpha & Omega Watch & Pray album was really good as well.

The Hermeto Pascoal sounds great, plus a couple of harsh noise ones I don't know. That's my next few hours.

I think Dai Xiaolia is known as Dai Zither round here so he's not confused with all the others.

These are my ten, not in any ranking order

The Dead CHarsh 70s Reality
Henryk GóreckiSymphony No 3
Igor Stravinsky/ Pierre BoulezPétrouchka; Le Sacre du printemps
Morton FeldmanFor Philip Guston
The OrbUFOrb
PavementSlanted and Enchanted
PJ HarveyDry
Sonic YouthDirty
StereolabPeng!
Tom WaitsBone Machine

Disappointed that no one else voted for The Dead C or Morton Feldman. Maybe I misunderstood Knotted 's earlier post and got my hopes up :(

The Dai Xiaolia album is really, really good. Lots of bends and slides, an amazing talent. It's like what guitarists want to do but can't quite tweeze it.
