Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-25

So depressing that I'll soon be adding another year to the thread title.
One positive is that support for this war within Western Europe is plummeting according to polling released today, so the belligerents will be at the negotiating table sooner rather than later. Hopefully sooner; in order to save lives.

So you may not be repeating this post in a years time.

Until Russia starts another invasion...

Looking increasingly likely that it was Russia that shot down the Azerbaijan Airlines flight yesterday morning, killing 38 people.

Yep. Fucking bastards, once again...

Looks like there was an alert for Ukranian drones in Grozny, Chechnia and while flying over the plane was engaged by an anti-aircraft battery and likely damaged by a SAM or similar. Evidence of shrapnel damage before and after the crash.

Pretty miraculously half the plane survived, but only in the tail section. :(

Just pressing the pause button.

Yet...
Shortly after the crash, reports from Russian state-controlled TV said the most likely cause was a strike from a flock of birds.

The Kremlin wants to wait for an official report in a few years' time.

Usual shit from them cunts, having sent a SAM to damage the plane, Russian flight controllers ordered it to fly across the Caspian Sea to Kazakhstan, presumably in the hope that it would crash in to the sea, making any investigation so much harder to pin on the Russians.

Isn't the tail section the part of the plane that's more likely to survive in a crash, albeit small odds wise likely?

Yes. was talking about this at lunch just yesterday, it is a real thing, but the chances are so small that I'll risk sitting in first class, ta very much. Although this latest one will move the odds further towards the cheap seats.

I want a seat in the black box. That almost always survives.

The first class cabin still looking more attractive to me....
Is it not filled with fucks muttering into microphones and making YouTube materiel these days?

I'm always getting spammed with stuff from that bald cunt; the slaphead avionationist from Mansfield, not the pervert from Brighton who does stuff on Russia. I don't get "recommendedations" for him anymore.

I quite liked that bald bloke who did Russia on trains , even though I felt from the start he was a bit superficial . As I watched more and more I felt increasingly disappointed with how he turned out. Dunno if he changed, just revealed his true self or whether I was just a bad judge of character.

More reports of NK troops. Lurid or true report? Time will tell if they show the NK dead.
  • North Korean troops deployed in Russia’s Kursk region are suffering heavy losses and being left unprotected by the Russian forces they are fighting alongside, according to Ukraine, while the US says Russian and North Korean generals see the soldiers as “expendable”. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday that said Russian troops were sending the North Koreans into battle with minimal protection and that the North Koreans were taking extreme measures to avoid being taken prisoner. “Their losses are significant, very significant,” the Ukrainian president said in his nightly video address. “We see that neither the Russian military nor their North Korean overseers have any interest in ensuring the survival of these North Koreans.” Zelenskyy said “several” wounded North Korean soldiers had died after being captured by Ukrainian forces. In Washington, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said troops sent by Pyongyang were killing themselves rather than risking capture. A “human wave” of North Korean soldiers were being sent to their deaths in “hopeless” attacks by generals who saw them as expendable, he said, estimating that Pyongyang suffered more than 1,000 killed or wounded in just the past week, which confirms similar figures reported by South Korea.

Apparently the NK troops are also issued with suicide instructions, death by grenade, which is holding up photo opportunities.

They did say the POW they have got died after capture. Why the death before capture policy (if true)? Death before exposing the truth about life in NK? Fear of embarrassing Kim?

Seems like the media are desperate to other the North Korean troops. Any reports of cannibalism yet?

Weren’t there stories about Iraqi republican guard removing babies from incubators during the Gulf War?

There were the baby stories yes.

They described the captured (now dead) NK soldier as “gaunt”. Surely POW rations and a chance to be assimilated would appeal over death?

The NK troops are used to sand in their rations at home. Huge parasitical worms in their bowels. Military training consists of surviving without supplies for weeks in the freezing mountains.

Yes. One would hope that Ukrainian POW rations are better than Russian ones:

"They beat us mercilessly, with their fists, sticks, hammers, anything they could find," Andriy says. "They stripped us naked in the cold and forced us to crawl on asphalt. Our legs were torn up, and we were left terrified and freezing."

"The food was horrifying – sour cabbage and spoiled fish heads. It's just a nightmare," says the marine. "It's like waking up from a bad dream in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, terrified."

do you think north Korea is the real life equivalent of a wakanda :hmm:

part of their troops battle cry is , whilst beating their chest "kim Joon un forever"

Here's as close as an admission of guilt we're going to get from the war criminal:
