UK gov to ban porn sites that don't verify users' age

just looking at it from a business perspective, I have no idea what the people who run the sites are like, but its pretty much instant death for any pr0n site that allows its users to be compromised

NON CONVENTIONAL. < this is really quite worrying really. who is going to be defining conventional sex acts?
I've just checked with the future and the rules are...

Missionary position only.
30 seconds max prior to the bloke going 'ah' and rolling over to read the paper / start snoring.
Neither party must looking like they're enjoying themselves.
Full nightwear must be worn at all times.
It should also be filmed in the dark with no lighting or night vision.

Kids have now reverted to wanking over the argos catalog bra section again and all is well with the world.

a lot of porn sites are criminally run - does anyone think any of these sites will be able to introduce credit card / passport scan identification of people without massive hacking, fraud and blackmail?

who would trust these sites to be secure

They, or their third party Age Verification services, would be prime targets for hacking. Only last week it was revealed that [Adult]FriendFinder, cams.com and Penthouse had the details of 412m accounts compromised in October.

Adult Friend Finder and Penthouse hacked in massive personal data breach

This was hardly an isolated case: Brazzers.com had details of 800,000 accounts taken in September. The Ashley Madison 'cheating' site was subject to a very high profile hack in 2015 and FriendFinder had a further 4 million accounts compromised early last year.

It looks like it is about to happen.

Age checks to be introduced on porn websites in UK

Two things come to mind:

1. How many hours after a site introduces it do we think someone will leak all the names of the credit card holders?
2. How many seconds after it is implemented do you think many more people in this country will learn about proxies?

When the EU mandated cookie warnings (fucking cheers for that one btw ) much of the web begrudgingly went along. I predict a 0% uptake for this.

Users may be asked to provide credit card details, as gambling websites do.

Yes, I'm more than happy to hand over my financial details to Pornhub

free porn will be everywhere still, dont worry.

if it's anything like the tobacco directive, you;'ll just have to cick one button that says 'yes i am over 18' or put in some random date of birth what aint yours.

They are talking about using a credit card to verify it. Which I'm sure everyone will delighted to hand over.

Surely it's going to be about giving your credit card details to some company awarded the contract to do it, and they then provide you with a logon. Anything where you're supposed to give your credit card details directly to porn websites is so obviously going to end in disaster that even David Davis would be able to spot the risks.

Tor isn't a great platform for streaming high definition video though is it.

Going down that sort of route then I'm imaging that a VPN to another country would be the way to go.

Nope, the act says:

(1)A person contravenes this subsection if the person makes pornographic material available on the internet to persons in the United Kingdom on a commercial basis other than in a way that secures that, at any given time, the material is not normally accessible by persons under the age of 18.

Looks like they are saying that the regulations enforced by the act will require an age check via. credit card data. I can't see porn sites spending lots of money for third party services if they already take credit card payments.

If you wanted to harvest credit card data porn sites are now the best way to do it.

lol so it's about demonetisation of the industry

good job we are just an insignificant island then which porn sites are more likely just to fuck off cus the rest of the world dont give a fuck.

They already did that when the BBFC (or was it ofcom?), who look likely to be placed in charge of this whole farce, decided that good old-fashioned pleasures such as face-sitting and gushing were to be banned.

yeah cus broken brexit aint shit all to them.

So does this mean that the UKG will be handing over the responsibility of the net policing to the market itself? I can see issues with this on just a quick skim.

So the landlords will be responsible for checking your immigration status, volunteer groups will be providing the food banks to fill the gaps in income, your hairdresser will be assessing dispensing your MH advise and your Pr0n provider will be ensuring you are suitably qualified to look at saucy images - fucking hell, is there anything that this bunch of cunts are actually willing to shoulder and deal with themselves ?

you have to wonder just how well some people get the internets. There was a twitter parody account of an obnoxious 'big boss' at this company and he actually went and asked the IT dept if they could turn twitter off.
