The Urban 6 Nations 2018 Thread

Is that not because they often only commit one player to the breakdown?
That's one reason. I'd say the pace and overall reading of the situation by players arriving at the breakdown to support or disrupt is also key. You only need to look at how swiftly and effectively a Tipuric (for example) arrives and intervenes when required. The margins are so tight that the loss of even a second can be critical

Why hasn't Joe Schmidt gotten a bigger job yet then? Not a massive media 'personality' but seems a very good manager and a decent chap.

ABs next?

I suspect either Scott Robinson (current Crusaders head coach) or Ian Foster (AB's Assistant coach)

Bigger job?.
It's true though isn't it. Not exactly the best paying role (I think EJ has that gig) nor the most demanding in terms of results (AB/Welsh jobs.) In comparison the Ireland job is pretty easy, especially when Rugby isn't even the most popular sport in the country.

I've got a lot of time for Joe. I think he's measured. A brilliant tactician. And most importantly not a cunt.

Perhaps he likes being out of that kind of hot-house though.

<tries very hard to ignore all the Eddie Jones/assistant ref nightmare cockery>

SO <brightly> England have announced their squad and it's probably about as good as I can hope for, but I still don't think it will be good enough to win (edit to add) against what is a pretty stable Irish team who are in a frame of mind for winning.

I'm hopeful about the backrow, but who bloody knows any more.

15 Anthony Watson, 14 Jonny May, 13 Jonathan Joseph, 12 Ben Te’o, 11 Elliot Daly, 10 Owen Farrell, 9 Richard Wigglesworth
1 Mako Vunipola, 2 Dylan Hartley, 3 Kyle Sinckler, 4 Maro Itoje, 5 George Kruis, 6 Chris Robshaw, 7 James Haskell, 8 Sam Simmonds

16 Jamie George, 17 Joe Marler, 18 Dan Cole, 19 Joe Launchbury, 20 Don Armand, 21 Danny Care, 22 George Ford, 23 Mike Brown

Interesting addition of Armand on the bench

A lot of bosh in that squad. Obviously trying to cut off the Irish carrying at source and win the gainline.

Promises to be a brutal battle.

**btw, I never accused you of being a dick waving thread tourist. Far from it. You have stepped unwarily into my 'bellend tagline generator' trap, however ;)

Promises to be a brutal battle.

Well, I hope so.

Oh bendy, do you really think I'm that foolish? I'm as Meta as they come baby. ;) :D

I'd been waiting for you to notice :D
What are your thoughts on Armand, btw? I read him described as a 7.5 in much the same way that Robshaw is a 6.5 somewhere, i.e. occupying a position twixt openside and 8. Is this about right?

You lot really need to learn to start rounding up and down ;)

i think it’s the best side England have picked all year. Ford dropped and Haskell starting make England much stronger. I hope they don’t outmuscle us at the breakdown which this England pack are capable of.

I want Henderson (delighted he starts) and O’Mahoney to start like a couple of fucking madmen to get Ireland on the front foot, good hard running from Healy and Stander with the backs spreading the English fatso’s tither and yon to get them blowing.

Not seeing the point in Biggar starting Saturday, obviously finishing second on Saturday means more to gats than planning for the RWC 2019. It's going to be a slugfest and I'm not sure we've got enough power to see the French off.

Pretty happy with that. Apart from Biggar. Glad to see josh back. He's worked really hard.

I really wish we could have the best bits of all three of our tens rolled into one. We'd then have someone like Dan Carter. The OH conundrum is so tricky: each one brings significant weaknesses as well as clear strengths. Not one has really put their hand up this 6N though, tbh, and in the absence of that it's unsurprising that WG has gone for the tried and tested

If you had to choose though?

Well he's open side and lock, so what does that make him, a 6??? :D I genuinely think he's comfortable with either.

He's direct, quick and he can score tries. Good head on him generally, but a worrying number of turnovers conceded in his stats for Exeter this year. Lacks international experience, obviously. Still, as an impact player, I think he could really count.
