Six Nations - 2024

I can't find anything up to date and authoritative, but was the French scrum on Sunday the heaviest ever? I think it was around 970kg, and all my searches bring up a mention of another French pack from a couple of years ago clocking in at 950kg. Who'll be the first to break the tonne barrier?
Perhaps it was. But exceeding a ton I reckon unlikely due to the different type of players and combinations. You could probably find 8 players who exceed a ton, but for practical and tactical reasons it wouldn’t be the optimal forward pack.

Basically most props are 110-130 (Genge would be at the lower end at 116, Will Stuart for England is 130, Antonio probably 145 but that’s an extreme)

Hooker likely to be 110-115 at most, maybe lighter as often quite a mobile player expected to be active in the loose.

Locks are going to be 115 -125, with some exceptional ones being 140+ eg Will Skelton or perhaps the French ones who played last week. But usually you’d pair a huge one with a more mobile one, having 2x 140kg ones is unlikely.

Within the back row you might have a big flanker at 6, who could be in the 115-120 range, the 7 will generally be the lightest player (Richie mccaw was 107) and no 8 can range from Ardie Savea at sub 100kg (but he’s really a 7) to someone like Vunipola who is around 130. You might pick a big 6 because you’re playing a smaller 8.

I certainly don't think that weight equates to excellence in the scrum. I was just curious as to when and if the arbitrary threshold of 1,000kg would be broken.

Anway, the final weekend. Ireland should win their match and the title, but the other two games might be interesting.

Looks like Manu Tuilagi may make a final England appearance tomorrow. France will be buoyed by their win last Sunday. I am not sure England are really up to playing well two weeks in a row, without Manny Feyi-Waboso in the team I don’t see the X factor. France to win a tight game

I suspect Wales will desperately want a win, with another veteran, George North, exiting international rugby, but Italy will fancy going three matches unbeaten in the 6N and perhaps achieving their best ever finish (I believe they can finish third). Might be a game too far though and their exciting full back Capuozzo is injured. Heart says Italy, head says Wales get a gritty win.

Form suggests Ireland will convincingly beat Scotland. I reckon this might be the dullest of the three games tomorrow. Ireland will play clinically for a bonus point win.

The tournament began with three away wins, I wonder if the more conventional three home wins is more likely tomorrow.

No.

20 minutes gone, 0-11
I’m watching a bit behind but thought I’d post after seeing 17 minutes that the succession of line breaks, breakdown and scrum penalties for Italy, combined with Wales having dildo fingers covered in Vaseline means Italy will surely win

Can really tell how badly the previous Italian coach had lost the dressing room at the World Cup, compared to their spirited performances this time round

Can’t really work out what’s happened in this game so far.

Really get a sense for how bad GSTK is when you hear the marsellaise

In world rugby only the Japanese one runs GSTK close that I can think of

Sad to see Furbank off as I rate him but don’t mind watching Smith at 15 in a big game for most of the match
